Bodo Löttgen
Bodo Löttgen (born 5 May 1959) is a German police officer and politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who has served as a member of the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2005 to 2012 and again since 2017. He has been chairing his party’s parliamentary group since 2017. Early life and career Löttgen was born 1959 in the West German village of Elsenroth and studied applied administrative science and became a high-ranking police officer. Political career Löttgen was first elected directly to the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia in the 2005 elections. 2005 North Rhine-Westphalia State Election
The 2005 North Rhine-Westphalia state election was held on 22 May 2005 to elect the members of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. The incumbent coalition government of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and The Greens led by Minister-President Peer Steinbrück was defeated. The Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia (german: Ministerpräsident des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen), also referred to as Premier or Prime Minister, is the head of government of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (''NRW''). The position was created in 1946, when the British administration merge the Prussian province of Westphalia and the northern part of the Prussian province of the Rhine (North Rhine) were merged to form the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. 2022 North Rhine-Westphalia State Election
The 2022 North Rhine-Westphalia state election was held on 15 May 2022 to elect the 18th Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. The outgoing government was a coalition of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Free Democratic Party (FDP) led by Minister-President Hendrik Wüst. The CDU remained the largest party with 36% of votes, a small increase from 2017, while the opposition Social Democratic Party (SPD) declined to 27%. The Greens almost tripled their vote share to 18%. The FDP fell sharply to 6%, and the Alternative for Germany (AfD) also slipped to 5%.
