Bodie ( ) is a ghost town in the Bodie Hills east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Mono County, California, United States. It is about southeast of Lake Tahoe, and east-southeast of Bridgeport, at an elevation of 8,379 feet (2554 m). Bodie became a boom town in after the discovery of a profitable line of gold; by 1879 it had a population of 7,000–10,000. The town went into decline in the subsequent decades and came to be described as a ghost town by . The U.S. Department of the Interior recognizes the designated Bodie Historic District as a National Historic Landmark. Also registered as a California Historical Landmark, the ghost town officially was established as Bodie State Historic Park in 1962. It receives about 200,000 visitors yearly. Bodie (born 1951) and Brock Thoene (born 1952; pronounced ''Tay-nee'') are an American husband-and-wife duo of authors. They are the authors of more than 75 works of historical fiction. Eight of their books have won Gold Medallion Awards. Over 35 million copies of their books have been sold in more than 20 languages. Career Bodie has written articles appearing in ''The Saturday Evening Post'', '' U.S. News & World Report'', and ''The American West''. The English term enlightenment is the Western translation of various Buddhist terms, most notably bodhi and vimutti. Samuel Bode Miller ( ; born October 12, 1977) is an American former World Cup alpine ski racer. He is an Olympic and World Championship gold medalist, a two-time overall World Cup champion in 2005 and 2008, and the most successful male American alpine ski racer of all time. He is also considered one of the greatest World Cup racers of all time with 33 race victories and being one of five men (and last to date) to win World Cup events in all five disciplines. ''The Professionals'' is a British crime-action television drama series produced by Avengers Mark1 Productions for London Weekend Television (LWT) that aired on the ITV network from 1977 to 1983. Preston "Bodie" Broadus is a fictional character on the HBO drama series ''The Wire'', played by actor J. D. Williams. Bodie is initially a rough, low-level drug dealer, but matures throughout the series and slowly rises through the ranks. Bodie is an intelligent and disciplined lieutenant, showing strong loyalty to the Barksdale Organization even after most of its members are imprisoned or killed. Bodie Weldon
John Ambrose Weldon (November 7, 1895 – May 25, 1928) was a professional football player during the 1920s. He played in the American Professional Football Association (renamed the National Football League in 1922) for the Buffalo All-Americans. Weldon was instrumental in the first NFL game to take place in New York City, as Buffalo defeated the Canton Bulldogs 7-3 at the Polo Grounds. During the game Weldon punted against the legendary Jim Thorpe and kicked a point after touchdown. However Weldon also played independent football for the Phoenix Athletic Club in 1919 and Union Club of Phoenixville in 1921. He would play a non-league game with Phoenixville on Saturdays, then took a train to Buffalo and the next day's game. This arrangement helped Weldon, and several other Buffalo All-Americans players, earn extra money in between league games. Bodie is a ghost town in Okanogan County, Washington, United States. Geography Bodie is located at (48.832667, -118.896704), approximately by stagecoach heading north of Wauconda along Toroda Creek (County Road 9495) off Washington State Route 20. Bodie lies 2592 feet (790 m) above sea level. History of the region In 1886, prospectors Tommy Ryan and Phil Creasor discovered a continuous mineralized ledge in the North of Okanogan County, and claimed the area as Eureka Gulch, which soon after became known as Republic. Republic's rapid heyday boasted seven hotels, twenty saloons, nine general stores, and an undisclosed number of brothels.
