Bochali
Bochali ( el, Μπόχαλη) is a village and a community in the southern part of the island of Zakynthos. It is part of the municipal unit of the city of Zakynthos. In 2011 its population was 876 for the village, and 1,143 for the community, including the villages Akrotiri and Kydoni. It is situated on a hill near the Ionian Sea coast, 1 km northwest of Zakynthos city centre and 1.5 km east of Gaitani. Zakynthos
Zakynthos (also spelled Zakinthos; el, Ζάκυνθος, Zákynthos ; it, Zacinto ) or Zante (, , ; el, Τζάντε, Tzánte ; from the Venetian form) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It is the third largest of the Ionian Islands. Zakynthos is a separate regional unit of the Ionian Islands region, and its only municipality. It covers an area of and its coastline is roughly in length. The name, like all similar names ending in , is pre-Mycenaean or Pelasgian in origin. In Greek mythology the island was said to be named after Zakynthos, the son of the legendary Arcadian chief Dardanus. Zakynthos is a tourist destination, with an international airport served by charter flights from northern Europe. The island's nickname is "the Flower of the Levant", bestowed upon it by the Venetians who were in possession of Zakynthos from 1484 to 1797. Zakynthos ( el, Ζάκυνθος, Zákynthos ) or Zante ( el, Τζάντε, Tzánte), is a city and a former municipality on the island of Zakynthos, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Zakynthos, of which it is a municipal unit. It is the capital of the island of Zakynthos. Apart from the official name Zakynthos, it is also called Chora (i.e. the Town), a common denomination in Greece when the name of the island itself is the same as the name of the principal town. The municipal unit of Zákynthos lies in the easternmost part of the island and has a land area of and a population of 16,810 at the 2011 census. It is subdivided into the communities Zakynthos (pop. 9,773), Ampelokipoi (1,930), Argasi (1,266), Vasilikos (799), Gaitani (1,899) and Bochali (1,143). Gaitani
Gaitani ( el, Γαϊτάνι) is a village in the southern part of the island of Zakynthos. It is part of the municipal unit of Zakynthos. In 2011 its population was 1,899. It is 2 km west of Zakynthos city centre, and 2 km east of Vanato. In the Middle Ages, during the Venetian rule many, mainly small, churches were built in the Gaitani area but most of them collapsed because of the big 1953 Ionian earthquake or because of the ravages of time. There are more than 70 ruins of churches at the area.
