Stephen McGuire (born 18 August 1984) is a Scottish Boccia player. Personal life McGuire was born on 18 August 1984, in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was born with muscular dystrophy, a degenerative condition that means he requires the use of a wheelchair. McGuire is known to work in the community, helping with disabled young people and is an ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. He has recently attended his third Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Josh Vander Vies (born December 28, 1984) is a Canadian lawyer and former Paralympic athlete. He won a bronze medal for doubles boccia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London before retiring. Early life Vander Vies was born on December 28, 1984, in Sarnia, Ontario to parents Gary and Sandy. He was born without fully formed arms or legs. He is a graduate of High Park French Immersion School and Northern Collegiate Institute. He earned a diploma in general arts and science from Lambton College before enrolling at the University of Western Ontario. Susana Cristina Carvalheira Barroso (born 10 June 1974) is a retired Portuguese Paralympic swimmer and boccia player who competes in international level events. She was the first Portuguese swimmers to win a medal in swimming at the Summer Paralympics and was the most medalled female Paralympian for her country.
