''Bobtales'' is an Australian animated series of aboriginal dreamtime stories produced in Perth, Western Australia in 1997 and aired in 1998. Thirteen 5-minute episodes were produced by independent film company Gripping Film and Graphics and the Western Australian Aboriginal Media Association in Western Australia, with funding from Screenwest, Film Australia, and SBS Independent. Lynette Narkle
Lynette Narkle, (born 1946) is an Australian indigenous theatre and film actor and director. Education Narkle studied Theatre and Drama from 2002 at Murdoch University in Perth. Career Narkle started in theatre in 1979, with indigenous playwright Jack Davis. Narkle worked for Screenwest increasing the engagement of Indigenous filmmakers with screen culture and was an associate director at Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company from 2002 to 2006. Narkle was on the Board of the Australia Council for the Arts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board from 2008 to 2010. Narkle was on the Board of the Yirra Yaakin Aboriginal Corporation from 2003 to 2007 and a WA representative on the Australia Council for the Arts Community Cultural Development Fund from 1996 to 1999. SBS Independent
SBS independent (SBSi) operated as the commissioning house for Australia's multicultural public broadcaster, the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), between August 1994 and December 2007. It was instituted via the landmark "Creative Nation" cultural policy initiative released in October 1994 by the Keating Government. The core purpose of the institution was to commission multicultural content from Australian independent film and television producers. At the end of December 2007, SBSi ceased to function as an administratively independent institution, and was merged with the SBS Content and Online Division. Dreamtime
The Dreaming, also referred to as Dreamtime, is a term devised by early anthropologists to refer to a religio-cultural worldview attributed to Australian Aboriginal mythology, Australian Aboriginal beliefs. It was originally used by Francis James Gillen, Francis Gillen, quickly adopted by his colleague Walter Baldwin Spencer, Baldwin Spencer and thereafter popularised by A. P. Elkin, who, however, later revised his views. The Dreaming is used to represent Aboriginal concepts of ''Everywhen'', during which the land was inhabited by ancestral figures, often of heroic proportions or with supernatural abilities. These figures were often distinct from gods, as they did not control the material world and were not worshipped but only reverence (emotion), revered. Screenwest is Western Australia's screen funding and development organisation, working in partnership with the screen industry to develop, support and promote film, television and digital media production in Western Australia. Film Australia was a company established by the Government of Australia to produce films about Australia in 1973. Its predecessors were the Cinema and Photographic Branch (1913–38), the Australian National Film Board (1939–1955, under different departments), and the Commonwealth Film Unit (1956–72).
