Bobrek, Bytom
Bobrek (German: ''Bobrek'') is a district of the city of Bytom in the Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. The district borders Szombierki (a district of Bytom) to its east, Karb (another district of Bytom) to its north, Ruda Śląska to its south and Zabrze to its east. As of 2011 it has a population of roughly 5 thousand people. Bobrek is very closely associated with Karb. During World War II, the Germans operated three forced labour camps in Bobrek, including a camp solely for Jews and the E209 subcamp of the Stalag VIII-B/344 prisoner of war camp. Sport Football The first football club established in Bobrek was RKS Górnik Bobrek (founded in 1945). In 1958 the club Bobrek Karb Bytom was established, which became defunct by 2007. Currently the clubs Polonia Bytom and Nadzieja Bytom enjoy great amount of support in the district. Bobrek is a district of Cieszyn, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. It was a separate municipality, but became administratively a part of Cieszyn in 1932. It had an area of around 767–768 ha.Miękina 2010, 119 History The village was first mentioned in 1322 Later it was mentioned as ''Bobreg'' (1365), ''Bobrek'' (1440), ''Bobersdorf'' (1449), and afterwards mostly as ''Bobrek'' with slightly varying spelling. Politically the village belonged initially to the Duchy of Teschen, formed in 1290 in the process of feudal fragmentation of Poland and was ruled by a local branch of Piast dynasty. In 1327 the duchy became a fee of the Kingdom of Bohemia, which after 1526 became part of the Habsburg monarchy. In 1802 the village had 464 inhabitants. After Revolutions of 1848 in the Austrian Empire a modern municipal division was introduced in the re-established Austrian Silesia. Bobrek was a subcamp of Monowitz concentration camp located in or near Bobrek, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland, and was part of the Auschwitz concentration camp complex. It was built by Siemens-Schuckert and held approximately 250-300 prisoners including 50 women who were used as slave labor to produce electrical parts for aircraft and U-boat submarines.
