Bobby Hooper (basketball)
Bobby Joe Hooper (December 22, 1946 – May 9, 2024) was an American professional basketball player who spent one season in the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a member of the Indiana Pacers. He was drafted out of University of Dayton by the New York Knicks in the eighth round of the 1968 NBA draft, but did not play for them. High school Hooper graduated from Simon Kenton High School in Lees Creek, Ohio. University of Dayton Hooper was a three-year letter-winner and starter for the Dayton Flyers. He played as a junior point guard for the 1966–67 Dayton Flyers team that played in the NCAA Basketball Championship game. They defeated North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball 76–62 in the national semifinal game before losing to UCLA, 79–64. In the championship game, Hooper tallied 6 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. 1968 National Invitation Tournament
The National Invitation Tournament was originated by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association in 1938. Responsibility for its administration was transferred two years later to local colleges, first known as the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball Committee and in 1948, as the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball Association (MIBA), which comprised representatives from five New York City schools: Fordham University, Manhattan College, New York University, St. John's University, and Wagner College. Originally all of the teams qualifying for the tournament were invited to New York City, and all games were played at Madison Square Garden. Oakland Oaks (ABA)
The Oakland Oaks were a charter member of the original American Basketball Association and the first West Coast basketball team to win a major professional championship. Formed in February 1967, the team played in the ABA during the 1967–68 and 1968–69 seasons at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena. The team colors were green and gold. On February 2, 1967, longtime entertainer and business entrepreneur Pat Boone, S. Kenneth Davidson and Dennis A.
