Bobby Cressey
Bobby Cressey (born 1981) is an American musician and composer who is the stadium organist for Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres. Cressey also plays organ for the San Diego Gulls and the San Diego Sockers. He has been playing organ at Petco Park for over ten years as of 2020. When he plays daytime games for the Padres, his organ is in section 313 and he takes requests in person and over Twitter. Cressey got the job in 2010 when he was at a special preview night for the Padres and the owners were discussing having "throwback" Thursday games with live organ music. They disclosed they had no organ player in mind and Cressey introduced himself and persisted in suggesting himself until he got an audition and got the gig. He began by playing just Thursday games, but now plays day games and Sunday games. A stadium organist is a musician who plays an organ during live sporting events. Organs at sporting events During the early part of the 20th century, organs were often found in public locations such as movie theaters, eating establishments, and shopping malls. Before then, they had customarily only been found in churches. Music played at sporting events, if there was any, would occasionally be provided by military bands. The first organ used in a stadium in the United States was in Chicago Stadium, which opened in 1929. The organ music was used for what was called "psychological accompaniment" for events at the stadium, especially hockey matches. Other stadiums that featured hockey games began getting their own organs including Madison Square Garden in 1936, and the Boston Garden in 1939. Petco Park
Petco Park is a baseball stadium in Downtown San Diego, California. It is the home ballpark of Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres, and has also been used as a venue for concerts, soccer, golf, and rugby. The ballpark is located between Seventh and 10th Avenues south of J Street. The park opened in 2004, replacing Qualcomm Stadium as the home stadium of the Padres. The southern side of the stadium is bounded by San Diego Trolley light rail tracks along the north side of Harbor Drive, which serve the adjacent San Diego Convention Center. ''MLB 14: The Show'' is a baseball video game developed by San Diego Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, based on Major League Baseball (MLB). It is the ninth entry of the '' MLB: The Show'' franchise. Announced on November 4, 2013, the game was released on April 1, 2014 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The PlayStation 4 version was released on May 6, 2014. Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is the featured athlete on the cover.
