Bob Whitcomb Racing
Bob Whitcomb Racing was an American professional stock car racing team that formerly competed in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. A successor to DiGard Motorsports, the team most prominently won the 1990 Daytona 500 with driver Derrike Cope. The team was able to win a second race with Cope at the wheel that year. From at least 1989 until 1990, the team had a technical alliance with Hendrick Motorsports. The team shut down in 1993. Cup series During the 1987–88 NASCAR offseason, Keene, New Hampshire businessman Bob Whitcomb bought the assets and the points to the DiGard Motorsports team and rechristened it as "Bob Whitcomb Racing". NASCAR Cup Series
The NASCAR Cup Series is the top racing series of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series began in 1949 as the Strictly Stock Division, and from 1950 to 1970 it was known as the Grand National Division. In 1971, when the series began leasing its naming rights to the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, it was referred to as the NASCAR Winston Cup Series (1971–2003). A similar deal was made with Nextel in 2003, and it became the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series (2004–2007). Sprint acquired Nextel in 2005, and in 2008 the series was renamed the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (2008–2016). In December 2016, it was announced that Monster Energy would become the new title sponsor, and the series was renamed the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (2017–2019). Barry Dodson
Barry Dodson was an American stock car crew chief. He was the crew chief for Rusty Wallace's 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship for Blue Max Racing. He pitted for several drivers won a combined 19 Cup races. Racing career Dodson began racing in $99 claim races at Bowman Gray Stadium. He then worked six years for Petty Enterprises in the Grand National Series (now NASCAR Xfinity Series). Dodson was hired by W. C. Anderson in 1979 to work on Benny Parsons' team before switching to Anderson's other driver Cale Yarborough. He left with Yarborough in 1983 and they joined Harry Ranier's team. Dodson was a NASCAR crew chief for the first time in 1985. Driver Tim Richmond finished eleventh in points with 13 top ten and 3 top five finishes in 28 races. Buddy Parrott
James Kenneth "Buddy" Parrott is an American NASCAR crew chief. Over 18 years, Parrott won 49 races. Parrott's sons Todd and Brad also served as crew chiefs. Career Parrott's career began in 1968 when he became a tire changer for Huggins Tire, a Goodyear distributor. In 1970, Parrott worked under Harry Hyde for Bobby Isaac; that year Isaac won the Grand National championship. Parrott worked for Hyde's No. 71 team through 1974, then in 1975 he became the crew chief for Ferrel Harris. In 1977 he was hired by DiGard Motorsports. He worked under David Ifft as crew chief for Darrell Waltrip. In May 1977, following victory at the Winston 500, Ifft left the team and Parrott was promoted to full-time crew chief. Jimmy Hensley
James Hensley (born October 11, 1945) is a former NASCAR driver. With a career spanning 27 seasons in all three of NASCAR's elite divisions, Hensley may be best remembered for his Rookie of the Year award won in 1992, his 15th season in the series, and for his nine career Busch Series wins. He spent most of his career working as an oil truck driver in addition to racing. He was best known as being a substitute driver for many teams. Early career Hensley's NASCAR career began in 1972, driving for famous owner Junie Donlavey in the No. 90 Ford. Both of his starts that season came at Martinsville Speedway, the track being just ten miles from Hensley's hometown of Ridgeway, VA. Cale Yarborough Motorsports was a NASCAR Winston Cup Series team that ran from 1987 to 2000. Ownership In 1986, The Race Hill Farms owner Jack Beebe sold his No. 47 Team to Cale Yarborough who wanted to drive part-time. He bought the team and switched car numbers from 47 to 29. During the 1988 season, Yarborough split time in the 29 car with Dale Jarrett, who had one top-ten finish in nineteen starts. Following Yarborough's retirement, Jarrett was named the full-time driver for 1989, as he posted two top-five finishes and finished 24th in points. Hardee's left at the end of the season, and was replaced by Phillips 66/TropArtic and Jarrett was replaced by Dick Trickle in the now No. 66 car. Speedweeks
Daytona Speedweeks presented by AdventHealth is a series of racing events that take place during January and February at Daytona International Speedway. Traditionally leading up to the Daytona 500, in 2021 it concluded with the Daytona road course race. Nearby tracks New Smyrna Speedway and Volusia County Speedway also run special events during the period. There is also a Monster Jam event held at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic Monster Energy Supercross raced at Camping World Stadium in Orlando which is about an hour South of the speedway. The races took place on February 13th and 20th which was the same day as both NASCAR Xfinity Series races at the speedway.
