Bob Titchenal
Robert Alden "Titch" Titchenal (October 17, 1917 – July 5, 2009) was an American football player and coach. He played college football at San Jose State University from 1937 to 1939 and was captain of the school's undefeated 1939 team. He played professional football for five seasons as a center and end for the Washington Redskins (1940–1942), San Francisco 49ers (1946), and Los Angeles Dons (1947). He coached football from 1948 to 1964, including stints as head coach at the University of New Mexico (1953–1955) and San Jose State (1957–1964). Early years Titchenal was born in 1917 in Ventura, California, and attended Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, California. He began his college career at Glendale Junior College and then enrolled at San Jose State University where he played center for the football team. All-America Football Conference
The All-America Football Conference (AAFC) was a professional American football league that challenged the established National Football League (NFL) from 1946 to 1949. One of the NFL's most formidable challengers, the AAFC attracted many of the nation's best players, and introduced many lasting innovations to the game. However, the AAFC was ultimately unable to sustain itself in competition with the NFL. After it folded, three of its teams were admitted to the NFL: the San Francisco 49ers, the Cleveland Browns and the original Baltimore Colts (not to be confused with the later Baltimore Colts team, now the Indianapolis Colts). Lakehurst Maxfield Field, formerly known as Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst (NAES Lakehurst), is the naval component of Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst (JB MDL), a United States Air Force-managed joint base headquartered approximately east-southeast of Trenton in Manchester Township and Jackson Township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The 1942 NFL Championship Game was the tenth title game of the National Football League (NFL), played at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. on December 13, with a sellout capacity attendance of 36,006. It matched the undefeated Western Division champion Chicago Bears (11–0) and the Eastern Division champion Washington Redskins (10–1).
