Bob Shannon (radio Personality)
Don Bombard (born December 16, 1948), known professionally as Bob Shannon, is an American radio disc jockey best known for his work on WCBS-FM in New York City. He is also the author of the book ''Behind The Hits: Inside Stories of Classic Pop and Rock and Roll''. He has a son, Scott (no relation to current WCBS-FM morning DJ Scott Shannon), and a daughter, Avery. Early life Don Bombard was first introduced on radio by future sportscaster Marv Albert, then a Disc Jockey on WOLF (AM), in May of 1962 as the winner of a guest deejay contest while still a junior high school student over in his hometown of Syracuse, New York. At age 15, Bombard experimented with broadcasting from his home, using a radio that had the wiring reversed to become a transmitter. The radio's antenna was hooked to a radiator, utilizing the water pipes to get the signal out to his neighborhood. Bruce Morrow
Bruce Morrow (born Bruce Meyerowitz on October 13, 1935 or October 13, 1937) (sources differ) is an American radio performer, known for professional purposes as Cousin Brucie or Cousin Bruce Morrow. In an October 2020 interview, Morrow said he received the moniker "Cousin" while in the lobby of his midtown Manhattan WABC studio when an elderly woman once asked him "Cousin, lend me fifty cents to get home" to whom he did give that fifty cents. The name stuck for six decades. Early life Morrow was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Mina & Abe Meyerowitz. Raised in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood, he attended elementary school at P.S. 206. WBHX (99.7 FM, "The Boss") is a radio station licensed to Tuckerton, New Jersey and airs a classic rock format, simulcasting WWZY 107.1 FM Long Branch. History On August 10, 1999 WBHX signed on full-time airing a mostly automated classic rock format with "Radio Rohn" in mornings and afternoons hosted by Mike Jarmus, including his Woodstock lunch show featuring music from the Woodstock period. Specialty shows included "The Dead At Midnight", "Blues Delux" and "The Dr. Demento Show". WBHX was constructed by Beach Haven Communications. On July 22, 2002, WBHX was Sold to Press for $2.75 Million. WWZY ("107.1 The Boss") is a classic rock music formatted radio station licensed to Long Branch, New Jersey. The station is simulcast on 99.7 WBHX Tuckerton, New Jersey. History 1960–1996 WWZY first went on the air on June 1, 1960 as WRLB "Radio Long Branch". At the time, the station's owner was afforded the possibility of broadcasting with 50,000 watts, but he declined, thinking that FM radio had limited potential. Therefore, the station signed on with 3,000 watts from a tower located in Long Branch, New Jersey. The studios were located adjacent to the tower. WWZY still uses the tower site, although the studios are now in Neptune, New Jersey. When the Long Branch 107.1 did not utilize 50,000 watts, the Federal Communications Commission subsequently assigned 107.1s to Briarcliff Manor, New York (north of New York City); Belvidere, New Jersey (near Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania); and Hampton Bays, New York (Long Island). WLNG (92.1 FM) is an oldies/ adult hits radio station licensed to Sag Harbor, New York, and serving eastern Long Island. WLNG is owned and operated by Bark Out Loud Dogs Media, LLC, a company led by meteorologist Bill Evans and his wife Sandra Foschi. Programming and history WLNG has only had three ownership changes since its founding in 1963. Fitzgerald C. Smith (1922–2005) started the station on August 13, 1963. Fitzgerald (known as Jerry) had been a reporter for ''The New York Times'' and NBC radio. WLNG began broadcasting on AM at 1600 kHz. In 1996 the 1600 frequency was sold to WWRL so that they could increase the power of their station which was on the same frequency closer to New York City.
