Bob Montgomery (psychologist)
Bob Montgomery is a prominent Australian former psychologist who was imprisoned for sexually abusing boys. Career Montgomery was a scoutmaster until 1965 when Scouts New South Wales ended his membership due to concerns raised by parents. He was a psychiatric inpatient for several months afterwards. He then studied psychology at the University of Sydney while working as a schoolteacher. In 1972, he moved to Melbourne and helped establish the psychology department at La Trobe University, where he ran a sex therapy clinic which was equipped with a double bed for research purposes. His lectures included lengthy footage of couples having sex, and students were made to replicate the controversial Milgram experiment. Scouting And Guiding In New South Wales
Scouting started in New South Wales, a State of Australia, in 1908. In the early years, local Boy Scout patrols and troops formed independently and several separate associations began operating including the Chums Scout Patrols, League of Boy Scouts, Girl Peace Scouts, Boys Brigade Scouts and Church Lads Brigade Scouts. These were later joined by The Boy Scouts Association, The Girl Guides Association and Life-Saving Scouts and Life Saving Guards of the Salvation Army. Milgram Experiment
The Milgram experiment(s) on obedience to authority figures were a series of social psychology experiments conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram. They measured the willingness of study participants, 40 men in the age range of 20 to 50 from a diverse range of occupations with varying levels of education, to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts conflicting with their personal conscience. Participants were led to believe that they were assisting an unrelated experiment, in which they had to administer electric shocks to a "learner". These fake electric shocks gradually increased to levels that would have been fatal had they been real. The experiment found, unexpectedly, that a very high proportion of subjects would fully obey the instructions, with every participant going up to 300 volts, and 65% going up to the full 450 volts. Paul Richard Wilson (born 9 March 1941) is a New Zealand-born Australian social scientist. He was convicted and jailed in 2016 for historical sex offences. Biography Wilson was born in New Zealand. He holds both B.A. and M.A.(Hons) degrees from the University of Canterbury, and an earned Ph.D. from the University of Queensland. He has made contributions to the forensic investigation of criminological issues, Australian policing and the Australian criminal justice system. He has questioned the use of mandatory sentencing. ''Big Brother Australia'' (also known simply as ''Big Brother'') is an Australian reality show based on the international '' Big Brother'' format created by John de Mol. The Australian Psychological Society (APS) is one of the professional associations for psychologists in Australia. The APS had more than 27,000 members in 2005, making it the largest professional body representing psychologists in Australia at that time.
