Bob McCowan
Robert Herman "Bob" McCowan (28 February 1875 – 29 April 1941) was a pioneer Australian rugby union player, a state and national representative fullback who played in his country's first Test series of 1899, captaining the national side on one occasion. Personal life McCowan was born in Renfrewshire, Scotland. He captained the rugby side at Brisbane Grammar School and after school played at the Past Grammars club. He ran a successful law practice after his football career but in 1929 he got into some betting trouble with an unsuccessful plunge on Phar Lap in the 1929 Melbourne Cup. He was sentenced for fourteen years for misappropriating over 153,000 pounds from trust funds of clients over a 10-year period 1920-1929). He later worked as a bar-room cleaner. He is buried in northern New South Wales at Byangum Road Cemetery in Murwillumbah in an unmarked grave. Renfrewshire
Renfrewshire () ( sco, Renfrewshire; gd, Siorrachd Rinn Friù) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland. Charlie Ellis
Charles L. Seymour Ellis (18 January 1875 – 31 December 1943) was a rugby union player who represented Australia. Ellis, a lock and flanker, was born in Newcastle, New South Wales and claimed a total of four international rugby caps for Australia. His debut game was against Great Britain, at Sydney on 24 June 1899, the inaugural rugby Test match played by an Australian national representative side. His last Test was in Australia v Great Britain at Sydney, 12 August 1899. Max Howell (educator)
Maxwell Leo "Max" Howell AO ''(né'' Maxwell Leopold Howell; 23 July 1927 – 3 February 2014) was an Australian educator and rugby union player. He played 5 Tests and 27 non-Test games for Australia between 1946 and 1948. He went on to become a physical education teacher and Professor at the University of Queensland. In 2003, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia "for service to education as a pioneer in the development of sports studies and sport science as academic disciplines". After his career as player he went to North America. Aligned with his sporting exploits, he pursued undergraduate and graduate study in Australia and North America in physical education, education psychology, exercise physiology, and sport history. Stan Wickham (4 January 1877 – March 1960) was a pioneer Australian rugby union player, a state and national representative centre who captained the Australian national side on a number of occasions in the early 1900s. Brisbane Showgrounds (formerly known as the Brisbane Exhibition Ground) is located at 600 Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and was established in 1875. Frank Row
Frank Leonard Row (25 January 1877 – 28 January 1950) was a pioneer Australian rugby union player, a state and national representative centre who was his country's first Test captain in 1899, leading the national side on three occasions. Early life and club rugby Born in Dalby, Queensland Row's father William had emigrated from England and settled in Queensland in 1864 to farm. The family moved to Sydney and after his schooling at Sydney Boys High School, Row played for Manly Federals, Wallaroos and North Sydney. In the early 1900s Rowe would move to New Zealand where he continued to play rugby, captaining a Wellington side in 1902. Row's younger brother Norman was also a Wallaby representative from 1907 to 1910. Robert Louis Challoner (3 October 1872 – 6 May 1955) was a rugby union player who represented for Australia. Challoner, a number 8, was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and claimed a total of 1 international rugby caps for Australia.
