Bob Matlock
Robert Aubrey Matlock (3 August 1918 – 22 July 2006) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Sydney Swans, South Melbourne in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Already 25 years of ago when he made his league debut, Matlock made 11 appearances in 1944. He was a regular member of the team in 1945 and one of just five players who participated in every game. This included the 1945 VFL Grand Final loss to Carlton Football Club, Carlton, which he played as a half back flanker. The 1945 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the South Melbourne Football Club and Carlton Football Club, held at Princes Park in Melbourne on 29 September 1945. It was the 47th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1945 VFL season. The match, attended by 62,986 spectators, was won by Carlton by a margin of 28 points, marking that club's seventh premiership victory.
