Bob Maher, Jr.
Robert Maher Jr. (born July 10, 1978Bob Maher 2007 Pro Player card (from the ''Magic: The Gathering'' ''Lorwyn'' expansion) in Wisconsin), is a professional '' Magic: The Gathering'' player. He picked up the ''Magic'' game after sustaining a football injury in high school, and has gone on to become one of the most celebrated players in the game's history, earning the nickname "The Great One". ''Magic: The Gathering'' Maher played in the junior division of the very first Pro Tour in 1996. His first senior Pro Tour would be in Los Angeles in 1997. The 1999–2000 Pro Tour season would be Maher's most successful season. He would win Pro Tour Chicago and Grand Prix Seattle, make the Top 8 of Grand Prix Nagoya and take second place at the 2000 World Championship. The Sideboard
''The Sideboard'' was a magazine published by Wizards of the Coast that covered ''Magic: The Gathering'' tournaments and expert play. After six years of publication, it ceased its print activities and much of the content from ''The Sideboard'' (along with the content from its website) was folded into magicthegathering.com. Originally titled ''The Duelist Sideboard'', the first issue was a full-color, 32-page issue published in July 1996. The cover story was a preview of the upcoming Magic: The Gathering World Championship, Magic World Championships. The next six issues were also full-color, and ran through July 1997. ''The Duelist Sideboard'' became a Tabloid (newspaper format), tabloid-size newspaper with its next issue (September 1997) and featured Jakub Slemr, who had just won the 1997 Magic: The Gathering World Championship, Magic World Championship. Jens Thorén is a former professional Magic: The Gathering player from Sweden. He is best known for winning the 2002 Magic Invitational and finishing in the top 4 of two Pro Tours in a row (San Diego and Osaka) in the 2001–02 season. Kai Budde (born 28 October 1979),Kai Budde 2005 Pro Player card (from the Magic: The Gathering Ravnica expansion) is a semi-retired professional Magic: The Gathering player, who holds the record for Pro Tour victories, and for a long time held the records for earnings and lifetime Pro Points. His performances earned him the nicknames "The (German) Juggernaut" and "King of the Grand Prix". Kai left the game in late 2004 to focus on his studies, and his appearances in tournaments are less frequent than in earlier years. Budde is widely considered to be one of the all-time greatest Magic: The Gathering players.
