Bob Dermer
Bob Dermer (born 1946) is a Canadian actor who first made his contributions to Canadian television in 1965 as an actor in Ottawa on a late night serial called ''Milk and Honey'' which ran for 200 episodes. Prior to '' Readalong'', Dermer was also on several Canadian children's shows such as '' Hi Diddle Day'' which ran for 10 years on the CBC followed by '' Pencil Box'' which ran for another six years. Early life Dermer was born in Ottawa, Ontario. Career In the 1980s, Dermer appeared on the children's show ''Today's Special'', playing a puppet character named Sam Crenshaw, and starred in the animated ''Raccoons'' series and specials as Ralph Raccoon (and various other characters.) He was the voice of Grumpy Bear in the ''Care Bears'' films and TV series of that era. ''Care Bears Nutcracker Suite'' is an animated television film featuring the Care Bears characters. Produced by the Canadian animation studio Nelvana in 1988, it is loosely based on The Nutcracker, the 1892 ''Nutcracker'' ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (adapted in turn from E. T. A. Hoffmann's 1816 short story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King"). ''Tales from the Cryptkeeper'' is an animated horror children's television series made by Canadian studio Nelvana. The series was broadcast on YTV in Canada and on ABC in the United States, and on ITV in the United Kingdom. It was based on the 1950s EC Comics series ''Tales from the Crypt'' and the live action television series of the same name, which aired concurrently on HBO. Intended for children, ''Tales from the Cryptkeeper'' was significantly milder than its live action version and all blood and gore, profanity and sexual content were completely removed in order to target the audience. ''The Edison Twins'' is a Canadian children's television program which ran for six seasons on CBC Television from March 3, 1984 to December 17, 1986. The Disney Channel also picked up the rights in the mid-1980s. Six seasons were produced by Nelvana. Synopsis The series stars Andrew Sabiston and Marnie McPhail as fraternal twins Tom and Annie Edison, Sunny Besen Thrasher as their mischievous little brother Paul, and Milan Cheylov as their bumbling friend Lance Howard. ''The Care Bears Battle the Freeze Machine'' is the second animated television special to feature the Care Bears characters. Made by Ottawa's Atkinson Film-Arts studios, it premiered in syndication in April 1984. The special introduces three new Care Bears characters,Grams Bear, Hugs, and Tugs. Plot Paul, a young boy, vows to get even with his bullies. ''The Raccoons and the Lost Star'' is the third of four animated television specials leading up to the animated television series ''The Raccoons'' and debuted on December 13, 1983.
