Robert Geering Burns (February 7, 1921 – November 6, 2000) was an American football player and coach. Sioux City () is a city in Woodbury and Plymouth counties in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 85,797 in the 2020 census, making it the fourth-largest city in Iowa. The bulk of the city is in Woodbury County, of which it is the county seat, though a small portion is in Plymouth County. Sioux City is located at the navigational head of the Missouri River. The 1962 South Dakota Coyotes football team was an American football team that represented the University of South Dakota in the North Central Conference (NCC) during the 1962 NCAA College Division football season. In its first season under head coach Bob Burns, the team compiled a 1–9 record (1–5 against NCC opponents), finished in sixth place out of seven teams in the NCC, and was outscored by a total of 265 to 94. The team played its home games at Inman Field in Vermillion, South Dakota. Conference standings Rankings Small college poll In 1962, both United Press International (UPI) and the Associated Press (AP) conducted "small college" polls, and selected different number one teams. UPI's panel of coaches selected Southern Miss, who had a record of 9–1 with their sole defeat coming in an 8–6 loss to Memphis State.
