Bob Bercich
Robert Edward Bercich (born November 9, 1936) is a former American football safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Michigan State University. Early years Bercich attended Argo Community High School, before moving on to Michigan State University. As a sophomore, he was moved between halfback and Fullback (gridiron football), fullback. He became a starter at Fullback (gridiron football), fullback as a junior and split time with Park Baker. Professional career New York Giants The New York Giants selected Bercich in the fifteenth round (179th overall) of the 1959 NFL Draft with a future draft pick, which allowed the team to draft him before his college eligibility was over. Pete Bercich
Peter James Bercich (born December 23, 1971) is a former professional American football linebacker in the National Football League. He played college football for the University of Notre Dame. He played five seasons for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings (1995–2000). After his playing days were over he spent 5 years as a Vikings' defensive assistant. He has served as the color commentator on the Vikings Radio Network since 2007. To date, his career highlight in radio broadcasting (by his own admission) was subbing for Dan "The Common Man" Cole on KFAN-AM 1130 in Minneapolis – Saint Paul on October 14, 2008. Before the season, CBS signed a contract with the league to televise all regular-season games for a $4.65 million annual fee. 1961 NFL Season
The 1961 NFL season was the 42nd regular season of the National Football League (NFL). The league expanded to 14 teams with the addition of the Minnesota Vikings, after the team's owners declined to be charter members of the new American Football League. The schedule was also expanded from 12 games per team to 14 games per team where it would stay for 16 years. The Vikings were placed in the Western Conference, and the Dallas Cowboys were switched from the Western Conference to the Eastern. The addition of the Vikings returned the NFL to an even number of teams (and eliminated the bye week of 1960 until temporarily and on a permanent basis). The season ended when the Green Bay Packers shut out the New York Giants 37–0 in the 1961 NFL Championship Game. Fred Doelling
Fred Frank Doelling (born September 27, 1938 in Valparaiso, Indiana) is a former American football safety in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Pennsylvania. Early years Doelling attended Valparaiso High School. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a two-way player, who also played on special teams. Known for his speed, he was a starter and the leading team rusher in three consecutive seasons. As a sophomore, he recorded 97 carries for 511 yards and one touchdown. As a junior, he was limited with leg injuries, recording 78 carries for 340 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.
