Bob Arnzen
Robert Louis "Bob" Arnzen (born November 3, 1947) is a retired American basketball and baseball player. Born in Covington, Kentucky, Arnzen graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1965. He then played collegiately for the University of Notre Dame. Arnzen was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 8th round (93rd pick overall) of the 1969 NBA draft. He played for the New York Nets (1969–70), and Indiana Pacers (1972–74) in the ABA for 56 games (winning the 1972–73 ABA Championship) and for the Cincinnati Royals (1970–71) in the NBA for 55 games. Arnzen additionally played Minor League Baseball for the Gulf Coast Expos (1969), West Palm Beach Expos (1969–71), Winnipeg Whips (1971), Québec Carnavals (1972), and Peninsula Whips (1972). Small Forward
The small forward (SF), also known as the three or swingman, is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. Small forwards are typically shorter, quicker, and leaner than power forwards and centers but taller, larger, and stronger than either of the guard positions. They are strategic and are often relied upon to score, defend, create open lanes, and rebound for their team. The small forward is considered to be perhaps the most versatile of the five main basketball positions as they contribute offensively and defensively. 1969 NBA Draft
The 1969 NBA draft was the 23rd annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on April 7 and May 7, 1969, before the 1969–70 season. In this draft, fourteen NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players. A player who had finished his four-year college eligibility was eligible for selection. If a player left college early, he would not be eligible for selection until his college class graduated. The first two picks in the draft belonged to the teams that finished last in each division, with the order determined by a coin flip. The Milwaukee Bucks won the coin flip in the commissioner's New York office on March 19 and were awarded the first overall pick, while the Phoenix Suns went second. National Basketball League (United States)
The National Basketball League (NBL) was a professional basketball league in the United States established in 1937. After the 1948–49 season, its twelfth, it merged with the Basketball Association of America (BAA) to create the National Basketball Association (NBA). Five current NBA teams trace their history back to the NBL: the Atlanta Hawks, the Detroit Pistons, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Sacramento Kings. Stan Arnzen
Stanley Henry Arnzen (August 8, 1914 – April 23, 1977) was an American professional basketball player. He played for the Cincinnati Comellos in the National Basketball League during the 1937–38 season and averaged 4.6 points per game. He played baseball and basketball at Morehead State University for two years. In 1937, Arnzen signed to play minor league baseball for the Cincinnati Reds organization. He competed for the Welch Miners (1937), Columbia Reds (1938–1939), and the Charleston Senators (1940). He won the Spalding Trophy his first season, given annually to "Outstanding Minor League Player" of that season. The Winnipeg Whips were a professional Triple-A minor league baseball team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada that played in the International League from 1970 to 1971. The team was affiliated with the Montreal Expos of Major League Baseball and played its home games at Winnipeg Stadium. The franchise was founded as the Buffalo Bisons, a founding member of the International League in 1886. The Expos purchased the Bisons shortly after joining the National League in 1969 and were eager to relocate the struggling team, to the extent that the team was moved midseason from Buffalo to Winnipeg in June 1970. Québec Carnavals
The Québec Carnavals were a Minor League Baseball team located in Quebec City that served as the Montreal Expos' Double-A Eastern League affiliate from 1971 to 1977. They became known as the Québec Metros for the 1976 and 1977 seasons. Following the 1977 season, the Expos moved their Double-A affiliation to the Memphis Chicks, an expansion team of the Southern League. The West Palm Beach Expos were a Florida State League minor league baseball team which existed from 1969 through the 1997 season in West Palm Beach, Florida. History The West Palm Beach Expos were a Class A affiliate of the Montreal Expos and played their home games at West Palm Beach Municipal Stadium. The Florida Complex League Nationals are a Rookie-level affiliate of the Washington Nationals, competing in the Florida Complex League of Minor League Baseball.
