Boardmasters Festival is an annual event held in Cornwall, United Kingdom, usually spanning five days on the second weekend of August. The event is a combination of live music and surfing/skateboarding competitions in and around the town of Newquay. The festival was founded in 1981 as a surfing competition, and in 2005 it was expanded to include music acts, taking place at Watergate Bay. The current capacity is 53,000. The majority of the music performances take place to the north of Newquay near Watergate Bay. The Men's Pro 5 Star WQS surf competition takes place on Fistral Beach where a skate ramp is built for the BMX and Skateboard competitions. Other sporting events include The Women's Open, WSL Men's Longboard, WSL Women's Longboard, Boys/Girls Pro Junior and Under 12's. It also has a well-being program featuring aerial yoga, massages, wood-fired hot tubs and champagne. The event is owned and managed by Vision Nine Group. Newquay
Newquay ( ; kw, Tewynblustri) is a town on the north coast in Cornwall, in the south west of England. It is a civil parish, seaside resort, regional centre for aerospace industries, spaceport and a fishing port on the North Atlantic coast of Cornwall, approximately north of Truro and west of Bodmin. The town is bounded to the south by the River Gannel and its associated salt marsh, and to the north-east by the Porth Valley. The western edge of the town meets the Atlantic at Fistral Bay. The town has been expanding inland (south) since the former fishing village of New Quay began to grow in the second half of the nineteenth century. Fistral Beach
Fistral Beach is in Fistral Bay ( kw, Porth an Vystel, meaning ''cove of the foul water'') on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated half-a-mile west of Newquay at . Fistral Bay is bounded by two promontories, Towan Head to the north and Pentire Point East (''not to be confused with Pentire Head'') to the south. The straight sandy beach faces west-northwest onto the Atlantic and is approximately long. It is backed by steep sand dunes and is overlooked by the ''Headland Hotel''. The name "Fistral" is recorded as ''Fistal'' in 1813, coming from the Cornish ''bystel'' meaning "foul water, bile or gall" (compare Welsh ''bustl'') probably in reference to the waves making it an unsuitable landing site. Sam Fender
Samuel Thomas Fender (born 25 April 1994) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. He is known for his high tenor voice and thick Geordie accent, layered over music characterised by a roots-orientated rock approach. Fender's sound relies primarily on his traditional American musical upbringing combined with a classic British rock sensibility. Kaine Brett Robinson (born 21 May 1985), better known as Kano, is a British rapper, songwriter and actor from East Ham, London. Foals, stylised as FOALS, are a British rock band formed in Oxford in 2005. Vert Ramp
A vert ramp is a form of half-pipe used in extreme sports such as vert skating, vert skateboarding and vert BMX. Vert ramps are so named because they transition from a horizontal plane (known as the flat-bottom) to a vertical section on top. The typical height of a vert ramp is to with anywhere from to of vertical on top. Vert skating ramps can be made with to of vertical while vert skateboarding ramps are made with of vertical in order for the skateboard to launch straight up into the air. This vertical section makes it easier for the riders to take off and 'catch air' on a vert ramp rather than on a half-pipe. This is because the vert at the top causes the rider to naturally go straight up into the air instead of forward and off the ramp (as is the tendency on half-pipes that don't go vertically upwards).
