Blumenau Esporte Clube is a football club from the city of Blumenau in the south Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. History The club was founded on 19 July 1919 as ''Brasil Football Club''. In 1936 the club was renamed to ''Recreativo Brasil Esporte Clube'', and in 1944, owing to a law prohibiting national denominations in club names, to ''Palmeiras Esporte Clube.'' On 19 July 1980 the club was renamed to ''Blumenau Esporte Clube'' in order to widen its appeal in the community. The colour red was integrated into the club's insignia in consideration of the club Grêmio Esportivo OlÃmpico - founded in 1920 and winner of the state championship of Santa Catarina, the Campeonato Catarinense, of 1949 and 1964 - which ceased its football operations in 1971. The club was between 1927 and 1988 six times runner-up in the state championships. Grêmio Esportivo OlÃmpico, commonly known as OlÃmpico, was a Brazilian football club based in Blumenau, Santa Catarina state. They won the Campeonato Catarinense twice. History The club was founded on August 14, 1919, as Sociedade Desportiva Blumenauense. The club was renamed to Grêmio Esportivo OlÃmpico in 1949. They won the Campeonato Catarinense in 1949 and in 1964. The club closed its football department in 1971. Campeonato Catarinense
The Campeonato Catarinense de Futebol, known as Campeonato Catarinense or simply Catarinense, is the main competition of association football from state of Santa Catarina, in Brazil. History The Campeonato Catarinense top level has had several different names since it started. From its first edition, in 1924, to 1985, it was called just Campeonato Catarinense (Santa Catarina Championship). 1989 Copa Do Brasil
The Copa do Brasil 1989 was the 1st staging of the Copa do Brasil. The competition started on July 19, 1989, and concluded on September 2, 1989, with the second leg of the final, held at the Estádio OlÃmpico Monumental in Porto Alegre, in which Grêmio lifted the trophy for the first time with a 2-1 victory over Sport Recife. Gérson, of Atlético Mineiro, with seven goals, was the competition's topscorer. Format The competition was disputed by 32 clubs in a knock-out format where all rounds were played in two legs and the away goals rule was used.
