Bluff River (New Zealand)
The Bluff River is a river of New Zealand. It is in the Canterbury Region and is a tributary of the Waiau Toa / Clarence River. The Bluff River flows south for from the slopes of Mount Major in the Inland Kaikōura Range. Confusingly, the Bluff Stream, another tributary of the Waiau Toa / Clarence, follows a largely parallel course to the east. Waiau Toa / Clarence River
The Clarence River (; officially Waiau Toa / Clarence River) is a major river which flows through the Kaikōura Ranges in the northeast of New Zealand's South Island. At roughly long, it is the longest river in Canterbury and the eighth longest in New Zealand. For its first , the river runs in a generally southeastern direction. It then turns northeast, running down a long straight valley between the Inland and Seaward Kaikōura Ranges. At the end of the Seaward Kaikōuras, the river meanders through undulating hill country before draining into the Pacific Ocean near the town of Clarence. A large part of the river is within the boundaries of Molesworth Station. The river and its tributaries cut through rock formed on the seafloor of the Pacific during the late Cretaceous through to the middle Eocene, during which period the majority of New Zealand was at points almost entirely submerged. Mount Major (New Zealand)
Mount Major is a mountain located in Alton, New Hampshire, south of Lake Winnipesaukee and northeast of Straightback Mountain in the Belknap Range. The scenic, rocky summit is a popular hiking destination, accessible by multiple trails including the Mount Major Trail, the Brook Trail, and the Boulder Loop. The easiest trail is the Mount Major Trail. It is marked with blue dashes. The north, east and south faces of Mount Major drain into Lake Winnipesaukee, thence via the Winnipesaukee River into the Merrimack River and finally into the Gulf of Maine in Massachusetts. The west ridge of Mount Major rises only feet above the col with the higher Straightback Mountain. Kaikōura Ranges
The Kaikōura Ranges are two parallel ranges of mountains located in the northeast of the South Island of New Zealand. The two ranges are visible from a great distance, including from the southern coast of the North Island. Description Formed along New Zealand's Marlborough Fault System, they can be seen as the northernmost extension of the Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana in the South Island. Named the ''Looker-on mountains,'' by Captain James Cook, they take their name from the town of Kaikōura at the southern extreme of the more eastern range, the Seaward Kaikōuras. This range rises straight from (and dominates) the coast to the north of the town, and reaches its highest point with the Manakau (mountain), Mount Manakau.
