Bluestone Formation
The Bluestone Formation is a geologic formation in West Virginia. It is the youngest unit of the Upper Mississippian-age Mauch Chunk Group. A pronounced unconformity separates the upper boundary of the Bluestone Formation from sandstones of the overlying Pennsylvanian-age Pocahontas Formation. Fossils Two formally named subunits of the Bluestone Formation, the Bramwell and Pride Shale Members, are quite fossiliferous. Plant fossils allow the top of the Bluestone Formation to be correlated with the Namurian A-Namurian B boundary, the European equivalent of the Mississippian-Pennsylvanian boundary. Conodonts belonging to the '' Adetognathus unicornis'' or lower '' Rhachistognathus muricatus'' conodont zones have been found in the Bramwell Member. This would make the Bluestone Formation the youngest occurrence of Mississippian-type conodonts in eastern North America. Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravity, gravitational forces exerted by the Moon (and to a much lesser extent, the Sun) and are also caused by the Earth and Moon orbiting one another. In geology, interbedding occurs when beds (layers of rock) of a particular lithology lie between or alternate with beds of a different lithology. For example, sedimentary rocks may be interbedded if there were sea level variations in their sedimentary depositional environment. Intercalation is a special case of interbedding where a layer is variably inserted into an already existing sequence; or where two separate depositional environments in close spatial proximity migrate alternately across the contact. Palaeonisciformes
The Palaeonisciformes (Palaeoniscida) are an extinct order of early ray-finned fishes ( Actinopterygii). Palaeonisciformes ''sensu lato'' first appeared in the fossil record in the Late Silurian and last appeared in the Late Cretaceous. Microconchida
The order Microconchida is a group of small, spirally-coiled, encrusting fossil "worm" tubes from the class Tentaculita found from the Upper Ordovician to the Middle Jurassic (Bathonian) around the world. They have lamellar calcitic shells, usually with pseudopunctae or punctae and a bulb-like origin. Many were long misidentified as the polychaete annelid ''Spirorbis'' until studies of shell microstructure and formation showed significant differences. All pre-Cretaceous "''Spirorbis''" fossils are now known to be microconchids. Their classification at the phylum level is still debated. Most likely they are some form of lophophorate, a group which includes phoronids, bryozoans and brachiopods.
