Blue-throated Piping Guan
The blue-throated piping guan (''Pipile cumanensis'') is a South American bird of the family Cracidae that is somewhat similar in appearance to the turkey. Composition, range and habitat There are two subspecies—''P. c. cumanensis'' and ''P. c. grayi''. ''P. c. cumanensis'' (Jacquin, 1784) is found from the Guyanas, the Orinoco river in Venezuela, and southeastern Colombia south to northwestern (Amazonian) Brazil and southeastern Peru. There and possibly in northern Bolivia it intergrades with the bigger ''P. c. grayi'' ( Pelzeln, 1870) (Gray's piping guan), which continues through northern and central Bolivia, Mato Grosso (state of Brazil), and northern and eastern Paraguay. This species occurs locally in forests: in Colombia and Venezuela, humid lowland forests (occasionally as high as 1000 m) whether seasonally flooded or not, and riparian forests. Joseph "Krystel" Franz Freiherr von Jacquin or Baron Joseph von Jacquin (7 February 1766, in Schemnitz (now Banská Štiavnica) – 26 October 1839, in Vienna) was an Austrian Empire, Austrian scientist who studied medicine, chemistry, zoology and botany. The son of Nikolaus von Jacquin, he graduated from the University of Vienna as a doctor of medicine in 1788. Between 1788 and 1791 Jacquin was sent on a scientific journey to Germany, France and England by Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor, Emperor Francis II. He inherited his father's position as professor of botany and chemistry at the University of Vienna, which he held from 1797 until his retirement in 1838. Pipile
The piping guans are a bird genus, ''Pipile'', in the family Cracidae. A recent study, evaluating mtDNA, osteology and biogeography data concluding that the wattled guan belongs in the same genus as these and is a hypermelanistic piping guan. Thus, ''Pipile'' became a junior synonym of ''Aburria'', though this conclusion was not accepted by the South American Checklist Committee, or evaluated by the IOC, so the classification remains in Pipile. The same results also showed that the light-faced taxa ''pipile, cumanensis'' and ''cujubi'' are not, as was sometimes suggested, conspecific. Lumpers and splitters are opposing factions in any discipline that has to place individual examples into rigorously defined categories. The lumper–splitter problem occurs when there is the desire to create classifications and assign examples to them, for example schools of literature, biological taxa and so on. A "lumper" is a person who assigns examples broadly, assuming that differences are not as important as signature similarities. A "splitter" is one who makes precise definitions, and creates new categories to classify samples that differ in key ways.
