Blood Oranges
The Blood Oranges were an American alternative country band that formed in the late 1980s. The founding members were Jim Ryan (acoustic and electric mandolin, guitar, and vocals), Bob Kendall (bass guitar) then replaced by Liz Wood (later Liz Crawley) (bass guitar, vocals), Andy Churchill (guitar) later replaced by Mark Spencer, and Ron Ward (drums). Cheri Knight took over on bass guitar in 1990 after Crawley moved to Wisconsin. Between 1990 and 1994 they released two full albums ('' Corn River'', '' The Crying Tree'') and one EP ('' Lone Green Valley''). ''Trouser Press'' described them as "one of America's finest and least formulaic roots-rock combos." The group disbanded in 1994. In 1995, Mark Spencer left the band to tour with Lisa Loeb. Jim Ryan and Cheri Knight have gone on to other musical projects, and the band reunited to record the song "Gathering Flowers for the Master's Bouquet" for the 2003 soundtrack of the movie ''The Slaughter Rule''. It was released in 1994 on the East Side Digital label, and was produced by Eric Ambel. Bloodshot Records is an independent record label based in Chicago, Illinois, which specializes in alternative country. History Bloodshot Records was founded in 1994 by Nan Warshaw, Rob Miller, and Eric Babcock, who knew each other from jobs in the music industry and from being active in was then a burgeoning underground country-roots music scene. Warshaw had been promoting, booking, and managing bands for years and also worked as a publicist for the band Killbilly, which released a record on Flying Fish Records, where Babcock worked. She was well known around Chicago as a punk raconteur. Her reputation was confirmed when Kurt Cobain’s diaries were posthumously published in 2002 included this mention: “Call Nan Warshaw” appears on his to-do list. East Side Digital Records
East Side Digital is a record label and distributor based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. History ESD was started and curated by Rob Simonds (who also created Rykodisc) in 1981 to import and distribute vinyl records on Japanese labels to record stores and other retailers. In 1982, ESD became one of the first U.S. distributors of compact discs, soon releasing records by rock and experimental performers on the ESD label. Subsequently, Ryko Distribution Partners took over ESD's distribution duties, allowing ESD to primarily be a record label. ESD is now a sub-label of NorthSide Records, a label Simonds created that specializes in Nordic roots music. The Slaughter Rule
''The Slaughter Rule'' is a 2002 independent film directed by Alex Smith and Andrew J. Smith and starring Ryan Gosling and David Morse.
