Blenda (opera)
''Blenda'' is a Swedish opera in four acts by Per August Ölander to a libretto by Ernst Wallmark and Ludvig Josephson after the latter's play of the same name. History Blenda as a historic character was created in 1691 by mill owner Petter Rudebeck at Huseby mill in Småland in order to preserve the Värendian right of inheritance for women when it was threatened by the state tax commission. According to the Blendasägnen, she gathered an army of women who defeated the Danes while their men were at war in Norway. The librettists Josephson and Wallmark were aware and approved of the relationship with the Virgin of Orleans. As the story goes, Blenda sacrifices herself after throwing herself between the Danish army leader Nils Dotta and her husband Harald in a battle that concerned both her favor and the honor of the lands.Carl-Gunnar Åhlén (February 15, 2002). Ludvig Josephson
Ludvig Oskar Josephson (20 February 1832—29 January 1899) was a Swedish dramatist, actor and theatre manager. Biography Ludvig Josephson was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of Jewish merchant Salomon Josephson and Beata Levin. He was the younger brother of composer Jacob Axel Josephson (1818-1880) and pianist Wilhelmina Josephson (1816-1906). In 1851, he went to Paris, where he found employment with a major bookseller and came in contact with several French writers. His free time was spent on theatre studies, which included directing. From 1853 to 1854, he lived in Dresden, then returned home. In 1858, at the Mindre Teatern, he performed the title role in ''Narziss'', a play based on ''Rameau's Nephew'', by the German playwright . Blenda is the heroine of a Swedish legend () from Småland. Blenda led the rural women of Värend in an attack on a pillaging Danish army and annihilated the invaders. Legend According to the legend, the events took place in the time of Alle (Anglo-Saxon ), King of the Geats, when this king led the Geats in an attack against Norway. King Alle had marshalled not only the West Geats, but also the South Geats (or Riding Geats) of Småland, and so many men had left for Norway that the region was virtually defenseless. When the Danes learned of Småland's precarious situation, they took advantage of it and attacked the defenseless small lands.
