María Blasco Marhuenda
María Antonia Blasco Marhuenda (born 1965), known as María Blasco, is a Spanish molecular biologist. She is the current director of the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas, CNIO). Life Blasco was born in 1965. She obtained her PhD in 1993 for her research at the ''Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa'' ( UAM- CSIC), under the supervision of Margarita Salas. That same year, Blasco joined the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York (USA) as a Postdoctoral Fellow under the leadership of Carol W. Greider (who was to win a Nobel Prize in 2009). Elena Blasco (born 1950) is a Spanish multidisciplinary artist who works in photography, painting, and installations. With a subjective and ironic view, she recreates everyday objects and settings to build a personal and unique identity into her works, in some cases referring to gender violence and social injustice. Career Elena Blasco earned a licentiate from the Complutense University of Madrid's Faculty of Fine Arts in 1974, opting to specialize in painting. She graduated in Photography and Decoration from the Madrid School of Plastic Arts. Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (, 29 January 1867 – 28 January 1928) was a journalist, politician and bestselling Spanish novelist in various genres whose most widespread and lasting fame in the English-speaking world is from Hollywood films that were adapted from his works. José Ruiz y Blasco (12 April 1838 – 3 May 1913) was a Spanish painter, an art teacher, and the father of artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso (1881–1973). Family life José Ruiz y Blasco was born in Málaga, Spain in 1838 and grew up in a middle-class family. At 42 years of age, he married María Picasso López (1855-1938), who was 17 years younger than him. The couple had three children; Pablo was born on 25 October 1881, Dolores, who was nicknamed "Lola", was born in 1884, and Conception, who was nicknamed "Conchita", was born in 1887. Jesús Blasco (3 November 1919 – 21 October 1995) was a Spanish author and artist of comic books, whose career covered most of the conventional history of comic strips. He worked extensively in British comics in the 1960s and 1970s. Career Blasco debuted in 1935 in the Spanish magazine ''Mickey'', at the age of fifteen. For the magazine ''Boliche'', however, he created the series and character named '' Cuto'' (translation: ''Cutter''). The Avenida de Blasco Ibañez is an avenue in the Spanish city of Valencia named after Spanish writer and journalist Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (1867 – 1928), who was originally from Valencia. The Avenida leads from the Jardines del Real in the west to the Poblats Marítims in the east. Plans to extend the Avenida to the sea have existed for a long time, but have not been realized. History Originally envisioned as a jardin street under the name of "camino-paseo hasta el mar" the project was approved by law on 1 August 1893. The aim of the street was to link the Jardines del Real in the west to the Poblats Marítims in the east of the city. A first design was made by Casimiro Meseguer who intended to make the street part of a green city plan he called "Ciudad Jardín". Meseguer finished his plan in 1895. Manuel Blasco De Nebra
Manuel Orlandi Blasco de Nebra (2 May 1750 – 12 September 1784) was a Spanish organist and composer who lived in Seville. He was the son of José Blasco de Nebra (Lacarra), the organist of Seville Cathedral since 1735, and became his assistant organist in 1768, taking over in 1778. He was renowned for his excellent sight-reading and playing of the organ, harpsichord and fortepiano, of which some impression can be obtained from his surviving compositions. During his short life (he predeceased his father), he composed about 170 works, although only 30, all for keyboard instrument, are still in existence. Six sonatas were recovered and edited by musicologist Robert Parris from the first edition of the ''Sonatas'', ''Op.1'', held at the Library of Congress in Washington. Gregorio Blasco Sánchez (10 June 1909 – 31 January 1983), also known as Goyo Blasco, was a Spanish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. When he was 16 years old, he joined his first rock band and moved to Ibiza in 1963 through the first years of the musical movement called "beatnic", before the "hippies". Blasco de Garay (1500–1552) was a Spanish navy captain and inventor. De Garay was a captain in the Spanish navy in the reign of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. He made several important inventions, including diving apparatus, and introduced the paddle wheel as a substitute for oars. In the nineteenth century, a Spanish archivist claimed to have discovered documents that showed that de Garay had tested a steam-powered ship in 1543. Blasco I Alagona or d'Alagona (died 1301), called the Elder, was an Aragonese nobleman and soldier in the service of the Kingdom of Sicily after 1285. His family was originally from Alagón. As a military commander, he was noted for his adept use of mobile infantry against heavy cavalry. Blasco was born in the first half of the 13th century.
