Hermann Ludwig Blankenburg
Hermann Ludwig Blankenburg (14 November 1876 in Thamsbrück – 15 May 1956 in Wesel) was a German composer of military marches. Blankenburg was the only son of three children of Johann Heinrich and Ernestine Friederike Koch Blankenburg. He was born with the middle name Louis but changed it to Ludwig later in life perhaps as a connection to Beethoven. Raised on a sheep farm in Thamsbrücke, he was expected to manage the farm someday. However, he showed a propensity for music starting with performing on the piccolo – a favorite instrument his entire life. His family agreed on his studying music as long as he promised to serve in the army for twelve years. Blankenburg taught himself to play various instruments including bassoon, tuba, and violin and he conducted his school orchestra at the age of ten. Horst Blankenburg
Horst Blankenburg (born 10 July 1947) is a German former professional footballer, who played as a sweeper. He is best known for the early 1970s period, during which he played for Ajax and won the European Cup three times (1971, 1972, 1973), the European Super Cup twice (1972, 1973), the Intercontinental Cup once (1972) and the Dutch championship and the KNVB Cup twice. In 1976, he won the German Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1977 with Hamburger SV. He was never selected for the West Germany national team. Lucretia Longshore Blankenburg
Lucretia Longshore Blankenburg (May 8, 1845 – March 28, 1937) was an American second-generation suffragist, social activist, civic reformer, and writer. During the period of 1892 until 1908, she served as president of the Pennsylvania Woman Suffrage Association. Her husband, Rudolph Blankenburg, served as mayor of Philadelphia. Together, the Blankenburgs worked for the things that uplifted humanity, that made for cleaner politics, and for better citizenship. During his term, she aided the city in scores of ways, doing some of the routine speech-making for him. She took almost full charge handling his correspondence. Blankenburg was one of the leading club women of the city. Nick Blankenburg (born May 12, 1998) is an American professional ice hockey player for the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). Rudolph Blankenburg (February 16, 1843 – April 12, 1918) was an American businessman and manufacturer, who became a politician and elected mayor of Philadelphia, leading a reform administration from 1911 to 1916. Biography Blankenburg was born in Barntrup, Lippe, Germany. From age 7 to 14, he was tutored by Carl Becker, a graduate of the Free University of Berlin. He showed an aptitude for languages, and became proficient in English and French, in addition to German. At the age of fourteen he left home to spend three years studying at the Real Gymnasium at Lippstadt. In 1865, Blankenburg followed Becker to America. He began working as a salesman and then became a textile manufacturer. He also began associating with the Society of Friends. He became wealthy and retired from his business concerns in 1909. Thomas Jean William Blankenburg (September 2, 1909 – March 29, 1979) was an American competition swimmer who represented the United States as an 18-year-old at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
