Blanc Du Bois
Blanc du Bois (French, ''white ''grapeof the woods ''forest') is an American hybrid grape that was created in 1968 by John A. Mortensen at the University of Florida’s Central Florida Research and Education Center in Leesburg, Florida. Mortensen created this variety by crossing various Vitis vinifera grape varieties such as Golden Muscat with native Florida varieties. When released in 1987, Blanc du Bois became another grape variety in the small but growing number of vine types that can both produce marketable wine on their own yet can withstand Pierce's Disease, a bacterial infection that destroys nearly all vinifera vinestocks imported into the southern United States. Despite the name, the grape variety has nothing to do with woods or forests; rather it was named in honor of Emile DuBois, an influential grapegrower and winemaker in the Tallahassee, Fla., area. Leesburg is a city in central Florida. The population was 20,117 at the 2010 census. As of 2019, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 23,671. ''Xylella fastidiosa'' is an aerobic, Gram-negative bacterium of the genus ''Xylella''. It is a plant pathogen, that grows in the water transport tissues of plants ( xylem vessels) and is transmitted exclusively by xylem sap-feeding insects such as sharpshooters and spittlebugs. Cardinal is a table grape variety first produced in California in 1939. The grape is a cross of the Königin der Weingärten and Ribier table grapes, according to latest research. Black Spanish (grape)
Black Spanish is a variation of grapes that were originally assumed to be a seedling of an American hybrid grape which resulted from the crossing of the American ''Vitis aestivalis'' species with a grape of an unknown ''Vitis vinifera'' pollen donor. Microsatellite DNA analysis (a.k.a. Simple Sequence Repeats or SSRs) has revealed that the American wild grapevine parent of Black Spanish (a.k.a. Jacquez) is '' Vitis berlandieri'' and not ''Vitis aestivalis''. This hybridization is not known to have been purposeful and may have occurred naturally, as was the case with many of the early American grape cultivars. Riaz et al.
