Blackrock Railway Station
Blackrock railway station ( ga, Stáisiún An Charraig Dhubh) serves Blackrock in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. It opened publicly on 17 December 1834 and is one of the three original stations on the Dublin and Kingstown Railway (D&KR), the oldest public passenger railway in Ireland. Services The station has two through platforms connected via a footbridge with lifts. DART From the inception of the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) service in 1984, all DART services stop at Blackrock. Other services Blackrock is on the intercity Dublin-Rosslare and commuter Dundalk-Dublin-Arklow-Gorey routes and some trains on these routes have a scheduled stop here. History The station opened on 17 December 1834. as one of the three original stations on the D&KR, the others being Westland Row (Pearse) and though the latter was subsequently rebuilt to the south of the original site. Black Rock Halt Railway Station
Black Rock Halt was a railway station in Gwynedd, located between Criccieth and Porthmadog on the former Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway. It served the popular beach at Black Rock Sands beyond the headland it is named after. History The halt, which could be accessed by a path from the foot of the Black Rock ( cy, Graig Ddu), consisted of a wooden platform and was opened on 9 July 1923 by the Great Western Railway, which saw itself as the 'holiday line'. It closed on safety grounds in August 1976, but was not officially closed until 27 June 1977. No trace of the wooden platform now remains. Volk's Electric Railway
Volk's Electric Railway (VER) is a narrow gauge railway, narrow gauge heritage railway that runs along a length of the seafront of the English seaside resort of Brighton. It was built by Magnus Volk, the first section being completed in August 1883, and is the oldest operational electric railway in the world, though it was not the first electric railway to be built. It was preceded by electrification of Miller's line in 1875, Werner von Siemens' 1879 demonstration line in Berlin and by the Gross-Lichterfelde Tramway of 1881, although none of these remain in operation. Brighton () is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods.
