''Blackbirds of 1933'' is a musical revue with a book by Nat N. Dorfman, Mann Holiner, and Lew Leslie. It is a sequel to Blackbirds of 1928. The original production premiered on December 2, 1933 at the Apollo Theatre in New York. The musical features music and lyrics by Mann Holiner, Alberta Nichols, Ned Washington, Joseph Young and Victor Young. It also featured the premiere of the Joseph Young/Ned Washington's standard "A Hundred Years From Today." Production History ''Blackbirds of 1933'' was a follow-up to ''Blackbirds of 1928''. The original Broadway theatre, Broadway production opened at Apollo Theater on December 2, 1933 and ran for 25 performances. It was staged by Lew Leslie and featured scenic design by Mabel A. Buell. Lew Leslie
Lew Leslie (born Lewis Lessinsky; April 15, 1888 – March 10, 1963) was an American writer and producer of Broadway shows. Leslie got his start in show business in vaudeville in his early twenties. Although white, he was the first major impresario to present African-American artists on the Broadway stage. He had two well-known wives, torch singer Belle Baker and Ziegfeld Follies showgirl Irene Wales. "A Hundred Years from Today" is a popular song published in 1933 with music by Victor Young and lyrics by Ned Washington and Joe Young. The song was included in the London production of Lew Leslie's ''Blackbirds of 1934''. A recording of "A Hundred Years from Today" by Ethel Waters accompanied by Benny Goodman & His Orchestra was very popular in 1933. Edith Wilson ( Goodall; September 2, 1896 – March 31, 1981) was a blues singer, vaudeville performer, and actress from Louisville, Kentucky, US. An African-American who performed and recorded in the classic female blues style in the 1920s, Wilson worked in vaudeville and stage productions, first in Louisville and later throughout the US and abroad. From the 1930s onward, she acted in radio plays and television, and from 1948 to 1966 represented the Aunt Jemima brand for Quaker Oats in personal appearances and on television. Kenneth J. "Speedy" Smith Jr. (born January 28, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for Hapoel Jerusalem of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. Katherine Perry (January 5, 1897 – October 14, 1983), also known as Kathryn Perry, was an American stage and film actress. She appeared in 37 films between 1920 and 1936. Blue McAllister
Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. It lies between violet and cyan on the spectrum of visible light. The eye perceives blue when observing light with a dominant wavelength between approximately 450 and 495 nanometres. Most blues contain a slight mixture of other colours; azure contains some green, while ultramarine contains some violet.
