Blackbird Bay
Blackbird Bay is a bay located on Otsego Lake. It is located in the Village of Cooperstown in the U.S. state of New York. The historic Otesaga Hotel is located on the shore as well as the Leatherstocking Golf Course. Appearances in literature In '' The Pioneers'', the point on the northern shore of Blackbird Bay is the site of an annual bass fishing expedition. Residents of the Village of Cooperstown then used nets to catch 1,000 Otsego bass, as well as other fish species in the lake in chapter 23. Cooperstown is a village in and county seat of Otsego County, New York, United States. Most of the village lies within the town of Otsego, but some of the eastern part is in the town of Middlefield. Located at the foot of Otsego Lake in the Central New York Region, Cooperstown is approximately southwest of Albany, southeast of Syracuse and northwest of New York City. The population of the village was 1,852 as of the 2010 census. Cooperstown is the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The Farmers' Museum in the village opened in 1944 on farmland that had once belonged to James Fenimore Cooper. The Fenimore Art Museum and Glimmerglass Opera are also based here. Otsego Lake (New York)
Otsego Lake is a lake located in Otsego County in the U.S. state of New York. It is the source of the Susquehanna River and largest lake in Otsego County. The Village of Cooperstown is located at the lake's southern end. Glimmerglass State Park is located on the lake's northeastern shore, and includes Hyde Hall, a large mansion constructed in 1817, that overlooks the lake. The Glimmerglass Opera, opened in June 1987, is located on the western shore. Between 10,000 and 12,000 years ago, glaciers of the Wisconsin glaciation filled the valley. Otsego Lake was formed when an ice tongue from a glacier carved out the Susquehanna River Valley. As the glaciers melted slowly, they filled in the valley they carved out. ''The Pioneers, or The Sources of the Susquehanna; a Descriptive Tale'' is a historical novel by American writer James Fenimore Cooper. It was the first of five novels published which became known as the '' Leatherstocking Tales''. Published in 1823, ''The Pioneers'' is the fourth novel in terms of the chronology of the novels' plots.
