Ramsey County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 11,605. Its county seat is Devils Lake. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on January 4, 1873, with areas partitioned from Pembina County. The county was named for Alexander Ramsey, a U.S. Senator from Minnesota. The county government was not completed at that time, and the county was not attached to another county for administrative or judicial purposes. The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is the state agency that administers selected state parks and recreation areas for the state of North Dakota. History In 1965, the North Dakota Legislative Assembly established the North Dakota Park Service, along with the State Outdoor Recreation Agency to assist the Park Service with planning park improvements. In 1977, the agencies were merged and renamed the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department. The agency manages thirteen state parks, seven state recreation areas, seven nature preserves, state trails, and outdoor education statewide. Grahams Island is an island in Devils Lake, a lake just outside the city of Devils Lake, North Dakota, which covers approximately . People live on the island year-round, although the population increases during the warmer months. The North and Central parts of the island are farms, with dense forest in the South and Southwest.
