''Black Narcissus'' is a 1947 British Psychological fiction, psychological drama film written, produced, and directed by Powell and Pressburger, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, and starring Deborah Kerr, Kathleen Byron, Sabu Dastagir, Sabu, David Farrar (actor), David Farrar, Flora Robson, Esmond Knight, and Jean Simmons. The title refers to the Parfums Caron, Caron perfume ''Narcisse Noir''. Parfums Caron is a French perfume house founded in 1904 by Ernest Daltroff. Over the course of the years, many Caron Perfumes were created. As of 2019, the brand is owned by Luxembourg-based Cattleya. Foundation Caron was founded in 1904 by Ernest Daltroff (1867-1941) who chose a short name, easy to remember in several languages while still being associated with France. The house was first located at 10 rue de la Paix in Paris. In 1906, Daltroff met Félicie Wanpouille (1874-1967), a young milliner who also worked on rue de la Paix, she introduced him to her clients, and soon became his business partner and muse. He created the perfumes, she created the bottles. Perfumes and powders were distributed in France through a network of Parisian department stores, then as early as 1923 Caron entered the American market. ''Black Narcissus'' is the third novel by English writer Rumer Godden and was published in 1939. It was adapted into a 1947 film ''Black Narcissus''. The title refers to the French perfume under the label Caron, ''Narcisse Noir''. Plot summary A group of English nuns travel to Mopu (near Darjeeling) to set up a convent school. They are situated in a palace at the top of an isolated mountain above a valley in the Himalayas. The palace has ancient and erotic artwork on the walls and was once a harem. Although the sisters' intentions are noble, they understand little of the area's people and culture. Mr. Dean, a local agent, predicts the failure of their mission. Ricky Wilson (American Musician)
Ricky Helton Wilson (March 19, 1953 – October 12, 1985) was an American musician best known as the original guitarist and founding member of rock band the B-52's. Born in Athens, Georgia, Wilson was the brother of fellow member Cindy Wilson. The B-52's were founded in 1976, when Ricky, Cindy, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland and Fred Schneider shared a tropical flaming volcano drink at a Chinese restaurant and, after an impromptu music session at the home of their friend Owen Scott III, played for the first time at a Valentine's Day party for friends. Wilson's unusual guitar tunings were a large contribution to the band's quirky sound. On October 12, 1985, at the age of 32, Wilson died from complications related to AIDS following the recording of the band's fourth studio album ''Bouncing Off the Satellites''.
