''Black Lives at the Golden Coast'' is the third full-length release from Los Angeles noise rock band The Icarus Line. ''Black Lives'' was also the second for major label V2 Records. Production Shortly after the long months of touring for Penance Soiree ended, the band returned to Los Angeles, penniless and completely frayed at the ends. All members went their separate ways except Joe Cardamone and Don Devore. Both recently lost their homes while being on the road and had returned to Los Angeles with no place to live. After a few weeks of crashing on couches, V2 decided it was best to put the singer-songwriter and bass player in a hotel where they could continue writing for a new record. Around this same time when Cardamone and Devore were working on various musical projects at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, Aaron North sent an email to The Icarus Line's management notifying that he would be leaving the group. The Icarus Line
The Icarus Line was an American post-hardcore band from Los Angeles, California, active from 1998 until 2015. Career 1998–2003 The Icarus Line's roots started from a high school rock group, Kanker Sores. Tragedy struck the band in 1997, when Tim Childs, drummer and close friend, was killed in a car crash shortly after recording their ''Pivot'' EP as Kanker Sores on Recess Records, and also songs for an aborted split 7” with Treadwell. The last Kanker Sores show was at the Che Café in San Diego, with Jenny Piccolo and The Locust. In 1998 The Icarus Line formed with Joe Cardamone on vocals, Aaron North on guitar, Lance Arnao on bass, and Aaron Austin (formerly of Naked Aggression) on drums. Before even playing a single show, the band booked an extensive East Coast tour with Ink & Dagger. The Icarus Line played their first show at The Melody Bar in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Beachwood Sparks
Beachwood Sparks are an American alternative country band from Los Angeles. An article in ''The Daily Telegraph'' on America's underground psychedelic pop scene described Beachwood Sparks as "country through a kaleidoscope". Biography The band was formed by bassist Brent Rademaker and guitarist Christopher Gunst who met in the 1990s when both were members of Los Angeles indie-rock group Further. Guitarist Dave Scher and drummer Jimi Hey (who played with Gunst in Strictly Ballroom) were recruited before the band's first show in June 1997. Hey suggested the band's name by combining Sparks Street, where Brent Rademaker lived in Burbank, with Beachwood Street, which runs parallel and adjacent to Sparks. Hey left after a few shows and was replaced by Tom Sanford. Michael Angelo Musmanno (April 7, 1897 – October 12, 1968) was an American jurist, politician, and naval officer. Coming from an immigrant family, he started to work as a coal loader at the age of 14. After serving in the United States Army in World War I, he obtained a law degree from Georgetown University. For nearly two decades from the early 1930s, he served as a judge in courts of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Entering the U.S. Navy during World War II, he served in the military justice system. Following the war, in 1946, Musmanno served as military governor of an occupied district in Italy.
