Björn Åkesson
Björn Oskar Ingemar Åkesson (born 4 January 1989) is a Swedish professional golfer that has played on the European Tour. He won the 2023 Nordic Golf League Order of Merit. Amateur career Åkesson had a successful youth career and played for the Swedish National Team. In 2006, he was runner-up at the Boys Amateur Championship and became the youngest ever winner of the Duncan Putter at Southerndown Golf Club in Wales, until the event was won by 15-year-old Tim Harry in 2013. In 2007, he won the Polo Golf Junior Classic at the Reunion Resort in the United States. He won the Junior Golf World Cup in Japan together with Jesper Kennegård, Daniel Jennevret and Pontus Widegren, finishing in 3rd place individually. Åkesson made his debut on the European Tour in 2006 after winning the amateur qualifying tournament for the EnterCard Scandinavian Masters. The St Andrews Trophy is a biennial men's team golf tournament contested between teams of amateur golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It takes its name from St Andrews in Scotland. It was first played in 1956 and takes place in even-numbered years; Great Britain & Ireland plays in the United States in the Walker Cup in odd-numbered years. The Joburg Open is a men's professional golf tournament that is held in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is an event on the Southern Africa-based Sunshine Tour and co-sanctioned by the European Tour, which attracts a larger prize fund and stronger fields. The 2016 European Tour was the eighth edition of the Race to Dubai and the 45th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The Race to Dubai was won for the second time by Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who was also named Golfer of the Year. The Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year was Wang Jeung-hun from South Korea. Borja Virto Astudillo (born 4 February 1991) is a Spanish professional golfer. Virto played college golf at Iowa State University for two years. Virto played on the Alps Tour in 2014, winning twice, and finishing fourth on the Order of Merit. This finish secured him a Challenge Tour card for 2015 but he finished T-18 at the 2014 European Tour Qualifying School (after starting at the second stage) to earn his European Tour card for 2015. The 2013 European Tour was the fifth edition of the Race to Dubai and the 42nd season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972.
