Bjarne Saltnes
Bjarne Saltnes (26 February 1934 – 16 May 2016) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He was born in Skaun as a son of a mill worker, and after vocational school as a carpenter in 1951, and some years as a construction labourer, he worked at the mill ''J.C. Piene & Søn'' from 1964 to 1997. From 1972 to 1994 he was a board member of the company as an employees' representative, and from 1977 to 1986 he chaired the trade union . Saltnes was a member of the Labour Party for over fifty years, and was a member of Buvik municipal council from 1955 to 1963. After a municipal merger, he sat in Skaun municipal council from 1965 to 1975 and 1979 to 1991, serving as mayor in 1971–1975 and 1979–1983. He chaired Skaun Labour Party from 1965 to 1967. Skaun
Skaun is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Orkdalen region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Børsa. Other villages include Buvika, Eggkleiva, Melby, Skaun, and Viggja. Skaun is predominantly rural, but is nonetheless situated only from Norway's third largest city, Trondheim. Most inhabitants, except agricultural and public sector workers, work outside of Skaun in Trondheim, Orkanger, or Melhus. The European route E39 runs east to west across the northern part of the municipality and Norwegian County Road 709 runs north and south through the municipality. The municipality is the 297th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Skaun is the 127th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 8,360. Buvik
Buvik is a former municipality in the old Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. Buvik existed from 1855 until 1965. The municipality encompassed the extreme northeastern part of what is now the municipality of Skaun in Trøndelag county. It encompassed the roughly area surrounding the Vigda river south of the Gaulosen fjord. The administrative centre was located in the village of Buvika. History The municipality was established in 1855 when it split off from the larger municipality of Byneset. Initially, Buvik had a population of 841. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. On 1 January 1964, the ''Langørgen'' farm area (population: 11) was merged into the neighboring municipality of Melhus. Sør-Trøndelag
Sør-Trøndelag () was a county comprising the southern portion of the present-day Trøndelag county in Norway. It bordered the old Nord-Trøndelag county as well as the counties of Møre og Romsdal, Oppland, and Hedmark. To the west is the Norwegian Sea (Atlantic Ocean), and to the east is Jämtland in Sweden.
