Bitter (Jupiter Apple Album)
''Jupiter Apple and Bibmo Presents: Bitter'' (also referred to by its shortened name ''Bitter'') is a collaborative album between the Brazilian musicians Jupiter Apple and Bibiana "Bibmo" Morena, who also was his domestic partner at the time. It was released in February 2007 by Goiânia-based independent label Monstro Discos as a prelude to the musician's then-upcoming album ''Uma Tarde na Fruteira'', scheduled to be released later that year by Elefant Records in Spain. Its raw, stripped-down sonority which contrasts with Jupiter Apple's previous releases was influenced by the likes of David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, Bob Dylan and The Kinks. "Exactly" was re-recorded from ''Hisscivilization''. Jupiter Apple
Flávio Basso (26 January 1968 – 21 December 2015), better known by his stage name Júpiter Maçã and by its English-language variation Jupiter Apple, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker. Before beginning a solo career in 1994, he was already known for being a founding member of bands TNT and Os Cascavelletes, both pioneers of the Rio Grande do Sul rock scene in the mid-to-late 1980s/early 1990s. Biography Early years, TNT and Os Cascavelletes Flávio Basso was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul on 26 January 1968; his father was a physicist and his mother a teacher of German descent. He learned by himself to play the classical guitar when he was 13 years old, and cites Paul McCartney, Syd Barrett, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and Brian Jones as some of his influences. In 1984 he formed the rockabilly band TNT alongside his childhood friends Márcio Petracco, Felipe Jotz and Charles Master, being later joined by Nei Van Soria ...

Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s. Initially termed "progressive pop", the style was an outgrowth of psychedelic bands who abandoned standard pop traditions in favour of instrumentation and compositional techniques more frequently associated with jazz, folk, or classical music. Additional elements contributed to its " progressive" label: lyrics were more poetic, technology was harnessed for new sounds, music approached the condition of "art", and the studio, rather than the stage, became the focus of musical activity, which often involved creating music for listening rather than dancing. Progressive rock is based on fusions of styles, approaches and genres, involving a continuous move between formalism and eclecticism. Due to its historical reception, the scope of progressiv ...

Psychedelic Rock
Psychedelic rock is a rock music Music genre, genre that is inspired, influenced, or representative of psychedelia, psychedelic culture, which is centered on perception-altering hallucinogenic drugs. The music incorporated new electronic sound effects and recording techniques, extended instrumental solos, and improvisation. Many psychedelic groups differ in style, and the label is often applied spuriously. Originating in the mid-1960s among British and American musicians, the sound of psychedelic rock invokes three core effects of LSD: depersonalization, dechronicization, and dynamization, all of which detach the user from everyday reality. Musically, the effects may be represented via novelty studio tricks, electronic music, electronic or non-Western instrumentation, disjunctive song structures, and extended instrumental segments. Some of the earlier 1960s psychedelic rock musicians were based in contemporary folk music, folk, jazz, and the blues, while others showcased an expl ...

Folk Rock
Folk rock is a hybrid music genre that combines the elements of folk and rock music, which arose in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in the mid-1960s. In the U.S., folk rock emerged from the folk music revival. Performers such as Bob Dylan and the Byrds—several of whose members had earlier played in folk ensembles—attempted to blend the sounds of rock with their pre-existing folk repertoire, adopting the use of electric instrumentation and drums in a way previously discouraged in the U.S. folk community. The term "folk rock" was initially used in the U.S. music press in June 1965 to describe the Byrds' music. The commercial success of the Byrds' cover version of Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" and their debut album of the same name, along with Dylan's own recordings with rock instrumentation—on the albums ''Bringing It All Back Home'' (1965), ''Highway 61 Revisited'' (1965), and '' Blonde on Blonde'' (1966)—encouraged other folk acts, such as Simon & Ga ...

Hisscivilization
''Hisscivilization'' is the third studio album by the Brazilian musician Jupiter Apple. It was released in 2002 by Voiceprint Records, and is the musician's most experimental, ambitious and elaborate output. Heavily influenced by the sonority of Syd Barrett, Stereolab and of the Canterbury scene (in particular Kevin Ayers and his 1970 release '' Shooting at the Moon''), ''Hisscivilization'' is characterized by the inclusion of electronic interludes, absent in Jupiter Apple's previous two releases, in a move that polarized critics and fans alike. It is also fully sung in English, like its predecessor ''Plastic Soda''. "Exactly" was re-recorded for his subsequent collaborative album with Bibmo, ''Bitter''. Critical reception The album was well-received upon its release, but many critics did not gravitate towards its heavily experimental sonority and long length. Writing for AllMusic, François Couture gave it 3 out of 5 stars, saying it is "filled with catchy hooks, intriguing twis ...

Uma Tarde Na Fruteira
''Uma Tarde na Fruteira'' (Portuguese for "''An Evening at the Fruit Shop''") is the fourth studio album by the Brazilian musician Jupiter Apple; released in 2007 by Spanish label Elefant Records, it was the musician's final studio album to come out during his lifetime. Distancing itself from its predecessors ''Plastic Soda'' and ''Hisscivilization'', it is mostly sung in Portuguese and returns to the more "accessible" psychedelia of his 1997 debut ''A Sétima Efervescência'', in sonority terms. The album was re-issued in Brazil by Monstro Discos in 2008, with a different cover art and track list; while the original Elefant version is more of a compilation with some previously unreleased tracks in-between, Monstro's version contains only new tracks. Music videos were made for the tracks "A Marchinha Psicótica de Dr. Soup" and "Mademoiselle Marchand". "Beatle George" is a tribute to George Harrison. A double-vinyl deluxe edition of ''Uma Tarde na Fruteira'', also by Monstro Dis ...

Domestic Partnership
A domestic partnership is a legal relationship, usually between couples, who live together and share a common domestic life, but are not married (to each other or to anyone else). People in domestic partnerships receive benefits that guarantee right of survivorship, hospital visitation, and other rights. The term is not used consistently, which results in some inter-jurisdictional confusion. Some jurisdictions, such as Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. states of California, Maine, Nevada, Oregon and Washington use the term "domestic partnership" to mean what other jurisdictions call civil union, civil partnership, or registered partnership. Other jurisdictions use the term as it was originally coined, to mean an interpersonal status created by local municipal and county governments, which provides an extremely limited range of rights and responsibilities. Some legislatures have voluntarily established domestic partnership relations by statute instead of being ordered to do s ...

The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. Active for six decades, they are one of the most popular and enduring bands of the rock era. In the early 1960s, the Rolling Stones pioneered the gritty, rhythmically driven sound that came to define hard rock. Their first stable line-up consisted of vocalist Mick Jagger, multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones, guitarist Keith Richards, bassist Bill Wyman, and drummer Charlie Watts. During their formative years, Jones was the primary leader: he assembled the band, named it, and drove their sound and image. After Andrew Loog Oldham became the group's manager in 1963, he encouraged them to write their own songs. Jagger and Richards became the primary creative force behind the band, alienating Jones, who had developed a drug addiction that interfered with his ability to contribute meaningfully. Rooted in blues and early rock and roll, the Rolling Stones started out playing covers and were at the forefront ...
