Bit By Bats
Bit by Bats were an Australian three-piece rock band originally from Adelaide with Owen Eszeki on vocals, electric guitar and theremin; Peter Gravestock on vocals, bass guitar, and electric guitar; and Ben Macklin on drums. The group had formed in July 2003 as The Hurts. Their early influences were the Cure, Joy Division, and Television. Bit by Bats have toured with the Australian bands including Cut Copy, Youth Group, the Grates, and supported international acts including Bloc Party, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Les Savy Fav, Von Bondies, Peaches, and Wire. In January 2004, they relocated to Melbourne, where Darren Levin of ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' observed, " heyhave tapped into hat city'sfledgling post punk scene, playing shows with like-minded no wavers Snap! The ARIA Charts are the main Australian record chart, music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The charts are a record of the highest selling songs and albums in various genres in Australia. ARIA became the official Australian music chart in June 1988, succeeding the Kent Music Report, which had been Australia's national music sales charts since 1974. ''Like a Version'' is a long-running weekly segment on Australian youth radio station Triple J. It involves musicians playing two songs live in the Triple J studio, one of their own songs and then a cover version. The series was created by presenter Mel Bampton in 2004 as part of the ''Mel in the Morning'' program. The title is wordplay on the song " Like a Virgin" by Madonna. Early performances were more intimate, with most covers in the first years featuring only acoustic instruments, but as the segment has evolved, recordings have moved into larger studios to accommodate full bands. The segment has grown in popularity over the years, leading to the release of compilation CDs featuring the covers. Triple J
Triple J is an Australian government-funded national radio station founded in 1975 as a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). It aims to appeal to young listeners of alternative music, and plays far more Australian content than commercial networks. The station was set up under the Gough Whitlam government, wanting to extend the appeal of the ABC to young Australians. Initially broadcasting as 2JJ or Double Jay from 19 January 1975, it stood apart from commercial stations with its lack of private advertising and its fringe music programming. Following a transition to FM in 1981, the station rebranded as 2JJJ or Triple J as it expanded regionally throughout the 1990s. Magic Dirt is an Australian rock band, which formed in 1991 in Geelong, Victoria, with Daniel Herring on guitar, Adam Robertson on drums, Adalita Srsen on vocals and guitar, and Dean Turner on bass guitar. Initially forming an alternative underground band called Deer Bubbles which split and formed into the much heavier, rock based group called The Jim Jims, they were renamed as Magic Dirt. Their top 40 releases on the ARIA Albums Chart are '' Friends in Danger'' (1996), '' What Are Rock Stars Doing Today'' (2000), '' Tough Love'' (2003) and ''Snow White'' (2005). Paul Cashmere is an Australian entrepreneur, broadcaster, music journalist and media executive. In 1995 he founded the digital music CD-ROM magazine, ''Undercover'', with Australian photographer and domestic partner, Ros O'Gorman (1960–2018). In September 2011 the pair founded the Noise Network including ''Noise11.com.'' As of September 2011 Cashmere was CEO and executive producer of the Noise Network. Biography Paul Cashmere began as a radio broadcaster in the late 1970s. He started at 2AD, Armidale (1977), then Nowra-based 2ST (1978 to 1981), EON-FM (1981-1983) and Fox FM (1983-1984).
