Dutch Baby Pancake
A Dutch baby pancake, sometimes called a German pancake, a Bismarck, a Dutch puff, or a Hootenanny, is a large American popover. A Dutch baby is similar to a large Yorkshire pudding. Unlike most pancakes, Dutch babies are baked in the oven, rather than being fried. They are generally thicker than most pancakes and contain no chemical leavening ingredients such as baking powder. They can be sweet or savory and can be served at any meal. The idea of a Dutch baby pancake may have been derived from the German '' Pfannkuchen'', but the current form originated in the US in the early 1900s. Ingredients and preparation It is made with eggs, flour, sugar and milk, and usually seasoned with vanilla and cinnamon, although occasionally fruit or another flavoring is also added. A basic batter incorporates a third of a cup of flour and a third of a cup of milk per egg. It is baked in a hot cast iron or metal pan and falls (deflates) soon after being removed from the oven. It is genera ...

Berliner (doughnut)
A Berliner is a German doughnut with no central hole, made from sweet yeast dough fried in fat or oil, with a marmalade or jam filling like a jelly doughnut, and usually icing, powdered sugar or conventional sugar on top. History Sugar was very costly until the 16th century, and early doughnuts were usually stuffed with savory fillings like cheese, meat and mushroom. When imports from Caribbean sugar plantations made sugar more affordable, fruit preserves gained in popularity. In the late 15th century the German-language cookbook '' Kuchenmeisterei'' was published in Nuremberg (it was later translated into Polish in 1532). It was one of the first cookbooks printed using the Gutenberg press and contains the first known recipe for a jelly doughnut, called ''Gefüllte Krapfen'' made with jam-filled yeasted bread dough deep-fried in lard. It's unknown whether this innovation was the author's own or simply a record of an existing practice. Preparation The yeast dough contains a g ...

Sink The Bismarck!
''Sink the Bismarck!'' is a 1960 black-and-white CinemaScope British war film based on the 1959 book ''The Last Nine Days of the Bismarck'' by C. S. Forester. It stars Kenneth More and Dana Wynter and was directed by Lewis Gilbert.Weiler, A.H"Movie Review – Sink the Bismarck – Of Men and Ships."''The New York Times''. To date, it is the only film made that deals directly with the operations, chase and sinking of the battleship by the Royal Navy during the Second World War. Although war films were common in the 1960s, ''Sink the Bismarck!'' was seen as something of an anomaly, with much of its time devoted to the "unsung back-room planners as much as on the combatants themselves". Its historical accuracy, in particular, met with much praise despite a number of inconsistencies. ''Sink the Bismarck!'' was the inspiration for Johnny Horton's popular 1960 song, " Sink the Bismarck".Polmar and Cavas 2009, p. 251. The film had its Royal World Premiere in the presence of the Du ...
