The Hagenbach-Bischoff quota (also known as the Newland-Britton quota or the exact Droop quota, as opposed to the more common rounded Droop quota) is a formula used in some voting systems based on proportional representation (PR). It is used in some elections held under the largest remainder method of party-list proportional representation as well as in a variant of the D'Hondt method known as the Hagenbach-Bischoff system. Hagenbach-Bischoff System
The Hagenbach-Bischoff system is a variant of the D'Hondt method, used for allocating seats in party-list proportional representation. It usually uses the Hagenbach-Bischoff quota for allocating seats, and for any seats remaining the D'Hondt method is then applied so that the first and subsequent divisors (number of seats won plus 1) for each party list's vote total includes the number of seats that have been allocated by the quota. The system gives results identical to the D'Hondt method and it is often referred to as such in countries using the system e.g. Switzerland and Belgium. Mount Bischoff
Mount Bischoff is a mountain and former tin mine in the north-western region of Tasmania, Australia. The mountain is situated adjacent to Savage River National Park near the town of Waratah. Location and features Tin was discovered at Mount Bischoff in 1871 by James "Philosopher" Smith. The mountain was named in the early nineteenth century after the Chairman of the Van Diemen's Land Company James Bischoff. Tin mine The mine operated successfully at first by the Mount Bischoff Tin Mining Company, using sluicing with water from the top of the waterfall in Waratah. In June 1883, the mine installed one of the first hydro-electric generators in Australia and employed it to light the offices, workshop and manager's house. The easy ore was all extracted by 1893 when sluicing was discontinued. Mining continued opencut on the face of the mountain, and underground. Sir Winfried Franz Wilhelm "Win" Bischoff (born 10 May 1941) is an Anglo-German banker and former chairman of Lloyds Banking Group. He previously served as chairman and interim CEO of Citigroup in 2007. He was succeeded as CEO by Vikram Pandit on 11 December 2007. Theodor Ludwig Wilhelm von Bischoff (28 October 1807 in Hannover – 5 December 1882 in Munich) was a German physician and biologist. Biography He lectured on pathological anatomy at Heidelberg (1835-1843) and held professorships in anatomy and physiology at Giessen (1843-1855) and Munich, where he was appointed to the chair of anatomy and physiology in 1854. In 1843, Theodor von Bischoff was elected as member of the German Academy of Sciences. His most important contributions were made in embryology with a series of four exhaustive memoirs on the development of the mammalian ovum; published in 1842 (rabbit), 1845 (dog), 1852 (guinea pig), and 1854 (roe deer). His studies concerning animal metabolism by measuring urea were less successful, as was his research on the anatomy of skull and brain. Samuel Bischoff (August 11, 1890 – May 21, 1975) was an American film producer who was responsible for more than 400 full-length films, two-reel comedies, and serials between 1922 and 1964. Life Born to a Jewish family in Hartford, Connecticut, Bischoff graduated from Boston University, then headed for Hollywood, where he began his career in 1922 by producing comedy shorts including Stan Laurel's ''Mixed Nuts'' (1922). He was the head of Samuel Bischoff Productions, a low-budget production company in the 1930s. He drew the attention of Columbia Pictures head Harry Cohn, who hired him to supervise the studio's feature film productions. In 1932, he moved to Warner Bros. and when Hal B. Wallis became production chief after Darryl F. Zanuck left in 1933, Bischoff and Henry Blanke were the main producers at the studio. He returned to Columbia in 1941. Sabine Bischoff (21 May 1958 – 6 March 2013) was a German fencer. Biography Sabine Bischoff fought for the Fencing-Club Tauberbischofsheim. Mikkel Rufus Mutahi Bischoff (born 3 February 1982) is a Danish football pundit and former professional player who played as a centre back. Having started his senior career with AB in 2001, he joined Manchester City a year later. For Manchester City, he only made two appearances in four years and was loaned out to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday. Manfred Bischoff (born 22 April 1942) is a German businessman who has served as chairman of the supervisory boards of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz. Early life Bischoff was born on 22 April 1942 in Calw, Germany. He earned a degree in Economics, and a PhD from Heidelberg University in 1973. Career From 2000 until 2007, Bischoff was chairman of EADS. He was a member of the Daimler supervisory board since 2006, and its chairman from 2007 to 2015.
