Birmingham Moor Street Railway Station
Birmingham Moor Street is one of three main railway stations in the city centre of Birmingham, England, along with Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Snow Hill. Today's Moor Street station is a combination of the original station, opened in 1909 by the Great Western Railway as a terminus for local trains, and a newer Moor Street station with through platforms, a short distance from the original, which opened in 1987, replacing the original. The two were combined into one station in 2002, when the original was reopened and restored, and the newer station rebuilt in matching style. Moor Street has become more important in recent years; two of the original terminus platforms were reopened in 2010, and the station is now the terminus of many Chiltern Railways services from London Marylebone, as well as being an important stop for local services on the Snow Hill Lines. Hockley Railway Station (West Midlands)
Hockley was an intermediate station on the Great Western Railway's London Paddington to Birkenhead via Birmingham Snow Hill line, England, serving the Hockley area of Birmingham. It was around one mile from Snow Hill station. Opened in 1854, it lasted for the duration of the line's original life, eventually closing with the line in 1972. The station had two bay and one island platform, with the only pedestrian access for passengers to the latter being from below. Replacement When the line was reopened in 1995, Hockley station was not reopened. However a new station; Jewellery Quarter station was opened around to the east, at the mouth of Hockley No 2 Tunnel. François Hennebique
François Hennebique (26 April 1842 – 7 March 1921) was a French engineer and self-educated builder who patented his pioneering reinforced-concrete construction system in 1892, integrating separate elements of construction, such as the column and the beam, into a single monolithic element. The Hennebique system was one of the first appearances of the modern reinforced-concrete method of construction. Hennebique had first worked as a stonemason, later becoming a builder, with a particular interest in restoration of old churches. Public Office, Birmingham
The Public Office was a municipal building on Moor Street in Birmingham, England, built between 1805 and 1807. It was the first important administrative building in Birmingham, and remained the principal local government centre until the 1880s, when the much larger Council House was constructed. The building was demolished in 1911 to make way for a railway goods station. History The Public Office was built to give the Birmingham Street Commissioners a permanent headquarters. The complex also included the magistrates courts and a small prison. The architect was William Hollins. The West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive (WMPTE) was the public body responsible for public transport in the West Midlands metropolitan county in the United Kingdom from 1969 until 2016.
