The Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League is the oldest club cricket league in the United Kingdom, formed in 1888. It was the first England and Wales Cricket Board, ECB ECB Premier Leagues, Premier League, being designated such in 1998, and is one of the strongest of the ECB Premier Leagues. Geography The Birmingham League traditionally covered North Worcestershire, South Staffordshire and North Warwickshire, much of which is now the conurbation of the West Midlands conurbation, West Midlands. Smethwick Cricket Club
Smethwick Cricket Club, founded in 1835, is an amateur cricket club based in Smethwick, Sandwell, England. In 1891, Smethwick Cricket Club joined the Birmingham and District Cricket League. Smethwick have five Senior XI teams: The 1st XI play in the Birmingham & District Premier League Premier Division, and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI compete in the Warwickshire County Cricket League. Smethwick CC also have a Sunday XI that play in the Arden Sunday Cricket League, and an established junior section that plays competitive cricket in the Warwickshire Youth Cricket Leagues. Smethwick have been Birmingham and District Premier League Champions on 3 occasions in 1951, 1968 and 2022. Club cricket is a mainly amateur, but still formal, form of the sport of cricket, usually involving teams playing in competitions at weekends or in the evening. There is a great deal of variation in game format although the Laws of Cricket are observed. The main nations that club cricket is played in include Pakistan, England, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Netherlands, Hong Kong and in some of the major cities in India. Birmingham County Football Association, also simply known as ''Birmingham County FA'' or ''BCFA'', is a football governing body covering the historic county of Warwickshire (including Birmingham) and the Black Country region, England. Wednesbury () is a market town in Sandwell in the county of West Midlands, England. It is located near the source of the River Tame. West Bromwich Dartmouth Cricket Club is an amateur cricket club in West Bromwich, West Midlands, England. Founded in 1834 it is a founder member of the Birmingham & District Cricket league. Established in 1833, it originally trained and played games in the Chuckery area of Walsall. It then moved to one at Windmill in 1847 and remained there until around 1850. The Chuckery ground became used by another team called the Tradesmen's Cricket Club. The Walsall Cricket Club stopped playing between 1850 and 1851, and reformed in 1852 when it moved back to the ground at the Chuckery.
