Biri, Norway
Biri is a village in Gjøvik Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located along the western shore of the lake Mjøsa, about north of the town of Gjøvik. The Norwegian National Road 4 highway runs through the village which is near the Mjøsa Bridge about halfway between the towns of Lillehammer and Gjøvik. The village has a population (2021) of 1,495 and a population density of . History The village of Biri was the administrative centre of the old Biri Municipality which existed from 1838 until 1964 when it was merged into Gjøvik Municipality. The village of Biri has been the commercial centre of the surrounding countryside for a long time. The area has traditionally been centred around agriculture and forestry. Biri (municipality)
Biri is a former municipality in the old Oppland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now part of Gjøvik Municipality in the traditional district of Vestoppland. The administrative centre was the village of Biri. History The parish of Biri was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). On 1 January 1910, the municipality of Biri was divided in half. The western part (population: 2,028) became Snertingdal Municipality and the eastern part (population: 2,815) continued as Biri Municipality. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. Biri, Northern Samar
Biri, officially the Municipality of Biri ( war, Bungto han Biri; tl, Bayan ng Biri), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 11,274 people. The archipelagic town is also known for its ''inakob'', a traditional Waray dish made by first cooking grated root crops (''gabi'') with coconut milk, condensed milk, eggs, brown sugar, and an herb called ''anuv''. Once cooked, the grated ''gabi'' is put inside ''gabi'' shells which have been peeled. The dish is then boiled with coconut milk. The dish is traditionally eaten hot by the people of Biri during the rainy months. Geography The municipality is facing Pacific Ocean to the east and San Bernardino Strait to the west. Alhaji Momodo Njie (30 March 1948 – 19 July 2020), also known as Biri Biri, was a Gambian footballer who played as a right winger. He most notably played for Sevilla FC in Spain and Herfølge Boldklub in Denmark. He was also a Gambian international footballer, and is regarded by several as the best Gambian footballer of all time.
