Birhan Keskin
Birhan Keskin (born 1963 in Kırklareli, Turkey) is a Turkish poet. Life She graduated in 1986 from Istanbul University with a degree in sociology and wrote her first poems in 1984. Between 1995 and 1998 she worked as editor for the magazine '' Göçebe'' (''Nomad'') as well as for other publishing houses in Istanbul. Kırklareli
Kırklareli () is a city within Kırklareli Province in the East Thrace, European part of Turkey. Name It is not clearly known when the city was founded, nor under what name. The Byzantine Greeks called it Sarànta Ekklisiès (''Σαράντα Εκκλησιές'', meaning ''forty churches''). In Greek language, modern Greek it is known with the same name, too. In the 14th century this was translated to Turkish language, Turkish and called "''Kırk Kilise''". Following the establishment of the Turkish Republic in 1923, sanjaks became cities and on December 20, 1924, Kırk Kilise's name was changed to ''Kırklareli'', meaning ''The Place of the Forties''. The denomination ''Kırklareli'' was already used years before 1924, for example in the contemporary literature concerning the Balkan Wars of 1912–13. Turkmens ( tk, , , , ; historically "the Turkmen"), sometimes referred to as Turkmen Turks ( tk, , ), are a Turkic ethnic group native to Central Asia, living mainly in Turkmenistan, northern and northeastern regions of Iran and north-western Afghanistan. Sizeable groups of Turkmens are found also in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and the North Caucasus (Stavropol Krai). George Messo
George Messo (born April 10, 1969) is an expatriate English poet and translator who was born in rural Lincolnshire, near the town of Barton-Upon-Humber. He moved to Trabzon, Turkey, in 1998 and has since lived in Oman and Saudi Arabia. He was the editor of ''Near East Review'' from 2001 to 2007. Messo is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society. Metin Altıok
Metin Altıok (March 14, 1941 – July 9, 1993) was a Turkish poet of Alevi faith, who - together with 34 other people, mostly Alevi intellectuals - fell victim to the 1993 Sivas massacre. Life Metin Altıok was born in Bergama, İzmir Province, Turkey. Metin Altıok studied philosophy at Ankara University. After graduating he went on working first as a civil servant and subsequently as a teacher. He held teaching posts in various Anatolian cities, and taught for several years at the religious İmam Hatip school in the city of Bingöl. Altıok published his first collection of poems, ''Gezgin'' ("Gadding about"), in 1976, which was followed two years later by ''Yerleşik yabancı'' ("Settled stranger") and eight additional collections until 1992.
