''Bipasha'' is a 1962 Indian Bengali-language drama film starring Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. and directed by Agradoot. The film is based on a novel titled ''Bipasha'' by Sri Tarashankar Bandyopadhay.The story fleetingly describes the horror of riots in West Pakistan during the time of Partition of India. Bipasa was described as a victim of that riot in the film. However, the film deviates from the original novel and avoids describing Bipasha as a gang rape victim by Pakistani Islamist rioters. It is one of the many hit films in which Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen worked as a pair. The other cast members included Chhabi Biswas, Chhaya Debi, Pahari Sanyal, Jiben Bose and Tulsi Chakrabarti. Agradoot
Agradoot () was a group of Indian film technicians signing collectively as director, a phenomenon unique to Bengali cinema. The Agradoot core unit, formed in 1946, consisted initially of Bibhuti Laha (cameraman, 1915–1997), Jatin Datta (sound), Sailen Ghosal (lab work), Nitai Bhattacharya (scenarist) and Bimal Ghosh (production). Kamal Mitra
Kamal Mitra was an Indian actor who appeared in more than 90 films spanning more than four decades. Along with Chhabi Biswas (1900–1962) and Pahari Sanyal (1906–1974) he dominated the Bengali silver screen as a character actor. Mitra played a number of prominent roles in mythological and social movies. His baritone voice and imposing physicality often saw him cast in roles of strict authoritative characters. Personal life Kamal Mitra was born on 9 December 1912 in Burdwan. He joined the military immediately after his graduation. Hailing from the well-known Mitra family of Barddhaman, he was a keen sportsman and a good footballer. Before making his foray into acting, he had worked in the District Magistrate & Collector's Office in Barddhaman. He was an avid reader and a collector of rare books.
