Bingola Records
Bingola Records was a United States record label of the 1920s. It was manufactured by Grey Gull Records of Boston, Massachusetts, and is one of the rarest and most short-lived labels produced by that company. The records were produced for the Bing Corporation of New York City, the U.S. branch of the German Bing Werke company of Nuremberg, which in 1925 had introduced its own line of phonographs called "Bingophone". The Bingola label was registered as a trademark in October 1927 and seems to have been produced only briefly during this year and 1928. Known issues re-use ordinary Grey Gull masters, but the label's catalogue numbers (in a 1000-series) have no visible connection with the equivalent issues on the company's other labels. Reference works long cited 1008 as the highest known catalogue number of a Bingola issue. However in 2008 a copy of Bingola 1011 (see photo) was sold by the vintage record dealer Kurt Nauck. Arthur Fields
Arthur Fields (August 6, 1884 – March 29, 1953) was an American singer (baritone) and songwriter. Biography He was born Abraham Finkelstein in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but grew up mainly in Utica, New York. He became a professional singer as a youngster. Around 1908, he toured with Guy Brother's Minstrel Show, and helped form a vaudeville act "Weston, Fields and Carroll". His first hit as a songwriter was "On the Mississippi" (1912), which he wrote the music for with Harry Carroll and Ballard MacDonald supplied the lyrics. In 1914 he wrote the lyrics to "Aba Daba Honeymoon", which was revived for the 1950 M.G.M. film '' Two Weeks With Love'' and thus got a renewed popularity which brought Fields large royalty incomes during his last two years. Grey Gull Records
Grey Gull Records was a record company and label founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1919. The company was started by Theodore Lyman Shaw, a member of a wealthy and prominent family from Wellesley, Massachusetts whose ancestors included Civil War hero Robert Gould Shaw. Shaw was involved in a number of business projects, including the Marcus Lucius Quinn School of Music in Dorchester. He operated an advertising business (Harvard University Class of 1905, ''25th Anniversary Report'', 575). According to the Massachusetts Department of Corporation and Taxation, Grey Gull was incorporated on December 31, 1919 and dissolved on March 31, 1934. Bing or Gebrüder Bing ("Bing brothers") was a German toy company founded in 1863 in Nuremberg, Germany by two brothers, Ignaz Bing and Adolf Bing, originally producing metal kitchen utensils, but best remembered for its extensive lines of model trains and live steam engines. Brian Rust
Brian Arthur Lovell Rust (19 March 1922 – 5 January 2011) was an English jazz discographer. Career Rust was born in 1922 in Golders Green, then part of the Municipal Borough of Hendon in Middlesex. He collected records from the age of five, but his most significant purchase was aged 14, when he acquired a copy of "Ostrich Walk" by the Original Dixieland Jass Band. After leaving school, Rust became a bank clerk. During the Second World War, he was a conscientious objector, and worked as an auxiliary fire officer. After the war, he returned to being a bank clerk. He worked in the BBC's record library from 1945 to 1960, and supervised broadcasting selections. He contributed to ''The Gramophone'' magazine from 1948 to 1970, and wrote freelance from 1960, including liner notes for record releases.
