Binghamton Crosbys
The Binghamton Crosbys (commonly referred to as The Crosbys) are a TTBB a cappella group at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York, USA. They are four-time national championship finalists and won the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) in 2003. History The second independent music club recognized by the university, the Crosbys were founded in 1983 and remain the only TTBB a cappella singing group at Binghamton University. Like many collegiate a cappella groups, they are rooted in traditions tied to certain social events, attire, or means of address. The Crosbys usually perform in jeans and blazers; their alumni song — a collegiate a cappella tradition in which alumni present at the concert may join current members to sing — is " Strike Up the Band" (aka Jack). A Cappella
''A cappella'' (, also , ; ) music is a performance by a singer or a singing group without instrumental accompaniment, or a piece intended to be performed in this way. The term ''a cappella'' was originally intended to differentiate between Renaissance polyphony and Baroque concertato musical styles. Strike Up The Band (song)
"Strike Up the Band" is a 1927 song composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin with the collaboration of Millie Raush. It was written for the 1927 musical ''Strike Up the Band (musical), Strike Up the Band'', where it formed part of a satire on war and militaristic music. Although the musical was not successful, the instrumental version of the song, titled the "March from Strike Up the Band", has become quite well known. The Beacon Theatre is an entertainment venue at 2124 Broadway, adjacent to the Hotel Beacon, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. The Pegs
The Harpur Harpeggios, more commonly referred to as The Pegs, is the only SSAA (Soprano and Alto) a cappella group at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York. History and Tradition The Harpur Harpeggios were founded in 1983 by a member of the Harpur Chorale. The Pegs perform a wide variety of styles of music, from 60s classics to songs on the radio today. Each semester, they host one major performance, or "Semester Show." The Pegs perform regularly at events on campus and in the Binghamton community. The Pegs also go on an annual Winter Tour, performing at schools, nursing homes, and events in the New York area. They have competed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) nine times, most recently in 2020.
