Counts Of Bilstein
The Barony of Bilstein (german: Herrschaft Bilstein) was a dynastic lordship with extensive estates in the region of the present German states of Hesse and Thuringia. History Wigger counts The barony probably began with Count Wigger I. He is recorded to have had extensive comital rights and estates in the Germarmark march on the middle Werra (the area of Frieda and Eschwege), at Hainich (Bad Langensalza, Schlotheim, Mühlhausen and Oberdorla) and in the Obereichsfeld from 967 to 981 AD. The fragmented estates of Count Wigger extended via Dornburg an der Saale as far as the area of Zeitz, where he is mentioned from 965–981 as the Margrave of Zeitz. Along with the Ekkehardiners, the counts of Kevernburg, the counts of Schwarzburg and counts of Weimar, the Wiggers were a powerful comital family in Thuringia in the 10th through 12th centuries. Eschwege
Eschwege (), the district seat of the Werra-Meißner-Kreis, is a town in northeastern Hesse, Germany. In 1971, the town hosted the eleventh ''Hessentag'' state festival. Geography Location The town lies on a broad plain tract of the river Werra at the foot of the Leuchtberg (mountain) northwest of the Schlierbachswald (range) and east of the Hoher Meißner. The valley basin where the town is located includes a series of small lakes along the northern side of the river. The nearest city in Hesse is Kassel (roughly 52 km to the northwest), and the nearest in Lower Saxony is Göttingen (roughly 55 km to the north). It lies more or less in the geographical centre of Germany. Warstein
Warstein () is a municipality with town status in the district of Soest, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located at the north end of Sauerland. Geography Warstein is located north of the Arnsberger Wald (forest) at a brook called Wäster. The area south of the city is mostly forested; the lightly forested Haarstrang mountain is to the north. The river Möhne flows between these two areas. The highest elevation is in the south of the city near a hill called Stimm Stamm; the lowest elevation is in the village Waldhausen in the north. Am Bilstein (Hückeswagen)
Am Bilstein is the name of an area of open land and prominent viewing point in the borough of Hückeswagen, county of Oberbergischer Kreis, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Location The place lies today immediately next to the Wupper Reservoir. Its neighbouring villages are Dürhagen, Hammerstein and Voßhagen. The place may be reached today on the A 7 path, from which a small side path branches off (signed). There is a viewing point protected by railings with a panoramic view of the reservoir.
