Billy Wells (boxer)
William Wells (7 September 1936 – 2008) known as Billy Wells was a British boxer. He was an Olympian and double ABA champion. Boxing career In 1965, Wells boxing out of the Wandsworth ABC won the ABA heavyweight title. Despite this success he was surprisingly left out of the England team for the 1965 European Championships. Three years later in 1968 he won his second A.B.A Championship. Wells was now boxing for the Lynn Athletic Club and defeated Coventry's Frank Carpenter in the final at Wembley. Despite being the oldest boxer (at 32 years of age), at the time of his second title win, he was selected for Great Britain to compete in the men's heavyweight event at the 1968 Summer Olympics, where he lost to eventual silver medalist Jonas Čepulis of the Soviet Union. Robert Wells (boxer)
Robert "Bobby" Wells (born 15 May 1961) is a British former boxer who won the Super Heavyweight bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Wells turned pro two years later but had limited success. His career ended with a record of 3-2-0 in 1989, including two professional fights in the then Soviet Union in 1989. He was affiliated with the ''Kingston Amateur Boxing Club''. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games. These were the first Summer Olympic Games under the IOC presidency of Juan Antonio Samaranch. Jonas Čepulis
Jonas Čepulis (11 August 1939 – 28 May 2015) was a Lithuanian amateur heavyweight boxer who won a silver medal at the 1968 Olympics. He won his first three bouts by technical knockout (TKO), and lost in the finals by TKO to George Foreman. Čepulis never won a Soviet title, placing second-third in 1965–66 and 1968 and therefore was not selected for the world and European championships. He won Lithuanian titles in 1963–1964, 1966–1967 and 1969–1970 and retired in 1970 with a record of 203 wins out of 230 bouts. He later worked at a Pergalės factory in Kaunas.
